Story by Dany La RochelleI have known Patsy Sullivan Webb for 36 years. There is no lovelier, kinder, or more generous person I call my friend. I love her, everyone who meets her loves her. When we were living in Montclair, New Jersey, we saw each other every day. Three of her six children with songwriter Jimmy Webb were good friends with my three and I co ran her baby, children’s and toy store. I knew in her marriage to Jimmy Webb, they had survived many of his infidelities and his persistent alcoholism over a twenty plus year duration. Finally, she could not take his meanness anymore and friends hired a lawyer for her to divorce Jimmy. In lightening speed, Jimmy stopped paying their mortgage and emancipated their sons in college, leaving them penniless and without medical coverage even though one of their sons required expensive daily medicines to stay well. Jimmy cut off their home’s utilities so that the family had no electricity, no working phone, no gas to cook with, no refrigerator to keep food in and no way to bathe herself or their 4 children, the youngest of whom was three. Within 2 weeks, her mini van was repossessed, leaving me to help get their kids to school and pick them up along with my own three. The family bathed at my home and ate with my husband and kids. This went on for months until Patsy got into emergent court. I was there for the excruciating two years it took Jimmy Webb and his lawyers to come to a settlement giving her lifetime alimony, child support and life insurance to secure her and another policy they already had to be given to their six children. Their home was lost to foreclosure. Jimmy made sure there were no assets to split after 22 years of marriage producing six wonderful children. Over and over after they divorced, Jimmy took Patsy back to court always pleading poverty, and looking to emancipate another of their children so he could stop paying support and his share of college, and for dumb motions like objecting to her taking the kids to church. It was mean spirited and never ending. I was there for all of it. Finally, in seeming frustration after many years of these motions, Judge Zampino ordered both Jimmy and Patsy to show what they had spent post divorce on these court actions.Jimmy showed he had paid Jim Andrews Esq. $850,000 while Patsy had paid her neighbor lawyer and friend Gary Moylen Esq. $70,000. The judge threw them out of court telling Jimmy Webb he had never seen so much money wasted trying to destroy a man’s own family. He ordered Jimmy to pay Patsy $3,000 towards the legal fees of the last motion. Of course, Jimmy appealed the judges ruling and lost. Again after a few relative years of peace, Jimmy and his current wife Laura Savini come back to court knowing Judge Zampino is now in private practice, and again plead poverty and Jimmy’s retirement, the same basis he used from the beginning. My dear friend Patsy never requested a review of Jimmy’s finances as Jimmy did not retire, and made do with her minimal monies. She could have gone back to court every 3 years to compare the financial status of each of them. She never did that because she was traumatized by all the court motions that were going on anyway. Now, Jimmy seeks to invalidate their contract in its entirety, leaving Patsy to I guess, live on the street as I often heard Jimmy threaten her she’d end up living on the streets as a bag lady. Though Patsy often represented herself on motions, this is so encompassing she must rehire her friend and post divorce lawyer, Gary Moylen. It’s going to cost a fortune. It’s the kind of abuse Jimmy heaps on Patsy knowing she has no savings to defend herself.Jimmy Webb is a world famous songwriter. I last saw him perform in England where I met his wife, Laura Savini who manages him. I feel compelled to ask whoever can... to give what you are able so Patsy can defend her minimal divorce contract. She has taken beautiful care of their six children and even adopted an orphan who is now a lovely, bright young woman, something Jimmy spent $150,000 suing her to prevent. He stated that he did not want her adopting "a child of unknown origin" and bringing that child into their family. Losing that motion, he then objected to her giving the toddler his "world famous last name Webb"... as though there are not millions of people with the last name of Webb. When Patsy and Jimmy met, Mr. Webb had just turned 22 and Patsy was not yet 13 posing for the cover of a magazine. Patsy had an enviable career going, as the face of a cosmetics company and appeared on hundreds of magazine covers around the world. At age16 she was pregnant with Jimmy's first child. Jimmy Webb of course, abandoned her, leaving Patsy's father, actor Barry Sullivan to fully take care of her and the baby. After much consideration, almost two years later they married and had 5 more children.Patsy is now 65 years old. The legal attacks on her by Mr. Webb (and now his current wife) must stop! Please give whatever you can to help my dear friend, Patsy Sullivan Webb pay her lawyer.I thank you very very much in advance,Dany La Rochelle
