How do I start a story about a Legend...
Penny "P Poppin" Lane, also known as P, Penelope, Puppy face, Queen P, Wrinkly croissant, Prickly Football; my darling girl has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the small intestine and perianal adenocarcinoma.
A few weeks ago, Penny Lane deceiced that it was a good day to eat a toxic Fig plant in our house that she had never even looked at before. Little did I know that this was Penny's subtle way of letting me know something just wasn't right inside.
After a nice visit to our local emergency vet (shout out to VCA West), some tests and some anti-nauseous meds, we returned home. However, mother's intuition kicked in and something just wasn't right. We spent the next 4 days in a row back at the emergency room doing literally every test in the books. We did X-Rays, Ultrasounds, Ecographs, biopsy samples, countless panels of bloodwork until we found something.
There nestled in my perfect baby's small intestine, there was a small mass.
The good doctors over at VCA were able to sedate her and get a sample hoping that we could take a non-surgical route. Unfortunately, we didn't get lucky there. This mass was causing a partial blockage, and it needed to go.
We then began prepping for an intestinal resection and anastomosis surgery where they would do two clean cuts on each side of her small intestine around the mass and then sew her intestines back together. While she was under they also removed a small perianal mass that had been tested in the past. This would lead to 3 days in the critical care unit at the VCA hospital while we waited for a Pet Cancer Speciality Biopsy.
In natural Penny Lane fashion, she's killed it in surgery, and her recovery has been going great so far.... but now we wait for some results.
Then the unfortunate call came.
Penny's results did not show us what we wanted to see, but they uncovered two types of cancer cells. The surgeon was able to get clean cuts on the intestine wall mass and that the best news we could get there. Unfortunately, while in surgery, the surgeon noticed something that just didn't look right and went ahead and removed one lymph node and sent this off to the cancer specalist as well. Which leads us here today.
With this news, we will be starting chemotherapy with our darling Penny Lane.
The doctors feel that she will handle treatment. Its really just the only next step here, so we will be doing everything we can for this perfect girl.
For those that know me well, know that she is my entire world.
From a dumpster rescue in Florida to the boujee LA doggo she is now, she is always brave and always stoic and we're trying to be the same for her.
So for now, anything helps. We appreiate and love you all.
Penny would love nothing more than to smother you with big kisses from the bottom of her big beautiful heart.
