Scholarship on behalf of Clyde & Penny Wakida

We are setting up this GoFundMe in memory of Clyde Wakida. Clyde, stayed behind on August 8, 2023 to save his family home in Lāhainā town from burning while sending his wife to safety. Penny, his wife, is safe with their daughter, son and the family dog Max on the other side of the island, but her life as she knew it, will never be the same.

Clyde, like so many kūpuna in this tight-knit community, was born and raised in Lāhainā and graduated from Lahainaluna High School in '67. It’s this deeply rooted connection that Penny, a retired Lahainaluna educator, wants to honor through a scholarship fund for current and future Lahainaluna students.

With our deepest gratitude and mahalo, we thank our community and the world for helping us to fund Penny’s request in honor of her late husband, Clyde Wakida.
