Please help save this boy, Cash Addy.
Our friends, Michelle and Chris Addy were wrapping up their stay in Korea with their twelve-year-old son, Cash and his two younger brothers when Cash started feeling flu-ish. Within days he was complaining of chest pains. Michelle and Chris took him to the hospital just in time. He has myocarditis, his heart had become enlarged, and filled with fluid. After performing CPR for almost an hour when he was on the verge of cardiac arrest, they put him on life support for almost a month as he waited for a heart transplant which he received on July 20th.
Receiving that heart seemed like a miracle, but there were complications. Cash’s left lung collapsed during surgery and they had to do an additional surgery after there was clotting in the brain.
All of this is a shock. Cash has always been a healthy, vibrant kid. He’s Chris and Michelle’s little brainiac who loves math and MrBeast. He has big plans for his future and is always looking out for his younger brothers. Given his sweet nature, it’s no surprise he’s already become a favorite of his nurses.
Cash cannot be moved. It’s possible he won’t be able to travel for up to two years. That means the family cannot come back home to the States. The family does not speak Korean so they have hired a medical translator, they are looking for an inexpensive apartment and they are trying to work remotely, but because of the time difference and the extreme emotional strain they’re under, it’s been hard.
The expenses are not insignificant. They’ve been told their portion of the heart transplant surgery will be approximately $40k and that does not include the hospital stay and medical expenses before his transplant. Then there’s the cost of the medical interpreters, living expenses in Korea, Cash’s rehabilitation and so on.
We’re asking for help supporting this family who is doing everything they can to support their boy. Michelle often points out that Cash is a fighter. We agree. But every solider needs an army. We’re asking that you help us not just fight for him, but with him.
Any money raised that exceeds the needs for Cash’s care will go to the family of the heart donor. We are so sorry for their loss and will do everything we can to ensure the heart of their loved one continues to beat and their memory stays alive.
Thank you for your support as we continue to pray for Cash's recovery.
Sincerely,
Kyra Davis-Lurie and Rod Lurie
