Please help Shana Dixon in her cancer battle

Dear Friends, Family and Compassionate Humans,

We have set up a GoFundMe for a spectacular woman who means the world to us. Shana Dixon is a beloved mother to Stephanie and Kaitlyn, Mimi of six—plus two on the way, sister, aunt, daughter in law, mother in law, colleague and dear friend, with a heart of gold and cheerful, glorious smile.

As many of you know, she was diagnosed in May 2022 with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma, otherwise known as bile duct cancer. She immediately began treatment of chemotherapy and radiation to keep the cancer from spreading in the hopes of a cure in the form of liver transplant surgery, with her daughter, Kaitlyn, selflessly offering to be the living donor. Three weeks before the scheduled surgery in November, the doctors cancelled the transplant surgery as a lymph node tested positive. In spite of the devastating news and with the love and support of her family and friends, Shana persevered with her positive attitude, continued chemotherapy, immunotherapy plus non-conventional treatment. Six-months later, her tumor has reduced in size and she is now a candidate for liver resection, or hepatectomy—a surgical procedure to remove part of her liver and the tumor.

With this being a rare cancer, Shana, Stephanie and Kaitlyn have done extensive research on who the best surgeons are with knowledge and experience in Cholangiocarcinoma, and have selected the experts at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City—thank you, Rich, for the introduction. Her surgery is scheduled for July 5, 2023. Shana, Kaitlyn, along with Shana’s sister, Tammy, will be traveling to New York in early July and will have extensive travel expenses. The intent of this GoFundMe is to help Shana and her family with the travel-related expenses as they will be in New York for a minimum of two-weeks, possibly longer and traveling from their homes in New Orleans and Atlanta.
