In February, my daughter April and her husband were surprised but excited to find out they may be having another baby. Unfortunately, shortly after, they were told it was a Molar Pregnancy and that the pregnancy was not viable. Doctors don't know why molar pregnancies happen but know that they are extremely rare, with only 1 In 20,000 pregnancies occurring in the U.S. each year. The doctor also informed them that April's care would need to be closely monitored because of rare complications that can happen after having a molar pregnancy that can lead to cancer.
Several months later, after also losing her father in June, April is still receiving treatment, and it seems like all the rare things the doctor said could happen to someone, in this case, have now happened to my daughter. April is now fighting to get her life back, battling a rare form of cancer due to these complications. Just in the past two weeks, her Oncologist has insisted she take a medical leave due to the side effects of the aggressive form of chemotherapy she will be on moving forward. Further treatment can last as long as six months. As most of you know, April works in the medical field and works with several doctors, many of who are also her friends and they are very concerned, as are all of her family and friends.
As a result of being placed on medical leave, she and her husband are having difficulty making ends meet financially. In addition to paying their regular monthly bills, they are now also overwhelmed with paying high deductibles, co-payments and other medical-related bills. They have an 18-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son who live at home. One is still in school, and the other is preparing for college next semester. The family is having difficulty understanding what is happening, and we are scared. For anyone that can help, this would be one less burden for April and her family to deal with while she fights this rare disease. The family also asks for your continued prayers. They want to also thank each of you for your support, thoughts, prayers, calls, and messages they have received so far. Updates will be posted as often as possible.
