Please help support Nan in her journey with paralysis

Hello family& friends! As most of you know my sweet mama is facing yet another health challenge causing expenses she and daddy weren't prepared for. I have started this Go Fund Me to help ease their burden. After speaking with mama's case manager and medical team we were told just to get her home and set up to live at home with her disabilities being a quadriplegic will cost around $25,000. Please know any monetary gift you donate will go towards the medical equipment she will have to have (co-pays, out -of-pocket, rentals) and home modifications such as widening doorways and making a bathroom handicap accessible for her needs. My daddy and I promised my mama as long as we're living she won't be going to a nursing home which was one of her biggest fears with her injury. If any money is left over after the equipment and home mod needs are met that money will go towards ongoing medical costs for supplies, DR/ PT co-pays and transportation to medical appointments. Daddy had to resign from his job in order to be mama's 24/7 caregiver. This was one of the requirements that had to be met to bring her home. That means they will be living strictly off Social Security. At some point we would like to get her a van with a lift or ramp that will accommodate her electric wheelchair. Unfortunately, these are not cheap and so she will be using public or medical transportation services in the meantime. The other costs we are asking for assistance with are our first priority in caring for her.

If you feel led to donate, please know we thank you from the bottom of our hearts in helping us bring mama home and care for her. If you are unable to donate we completely understand and appreciate your continued prayers for our precious Nan.

For those of you who don't know her story I will try to tell it as briefly as possible. Mama fell at home on March 10 causing a spinal cord injury. . She was airlifted to Richland Memorial where she spent 9 days in trauma ICU. A MRI showed a fracture to her C4-5 with spinal compression from C2-C7. The dr told us if her injury had been one level higher it would have paralyzed her lungs. BUT GOD! This injury did however, leave her a quadriplegic. It is not a complete cord injury so she does have limited movement and sensation.

She was transferred to the rehab hospital in Charlotte March 19. She spent less than 2 days there when she suffered a major setback and had to be admitted to CMC Main. She spent the next 7 days at CMC. 3 1/2 of those days she was semi-conscious. The doctors are still not sure what caused the neurological issue. They were not certain for a few days that she would even survive. BUT GOD!

The day after she regained full consciousness she desatted into the 70's and we thought she was going to be put on a ventilator. BUT GOD!

She was moved back to the rehab hospital on March 28 and has been there since. She is working hard in therapy and making improvements every day. Her projected discharge date home is April 26.

To go back a little further for those who may not know, mama was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension in March 2019. She was not expected to live but 2 years, was placed on palliative care then hospice care. BUT GOD!

Mama has an immense faith in God and the strongest will to live of anyone I've ever known. She loves with all her heart. She is a fighter. She is an over comer time and time again. She is brave. She is beautiful inside and out. She is an inspiration to many and God is not through with her yet!

I will post updates on this Go Fund Me page on her continued progress. Thank you all for your continued love and support!
