Obituary:
Nicholas Eugene Guthrie, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 3, 2024, following a tractor accident. He was 43 years old.
Nic, as he was known to most, was born on December 14th 1980, in Tulsa, OK, to Olin and Jonna Guthrie. He grew up in the Bixby community and developed the desire to become a firefighter at an early age, a career that would fulfill his servant’s heart.
After graduating from Bixby High School in 1999, Nic worked full-time as a painter for his uncle until he was hired onto the Bixby Fire Department in January 2003. He faithfully served the citizens of Bixby for 21 years until his passing, having been promoted to the rank of lieutenant during his tenure. Nic paid meticulous attention to detail and a strong work ethic earned him the respect of every person he met.
He was always obnoxiously early to arrive everywhere he went and thought if you weren’t at least 10 minutes early you were late. So it would only be fitting that he is obnoxiously early to arrive in Heaven as well.
Nic was a devoted husband to his wife Laura for 21 years and a loving father to their two children, Bryce and Blaire. His family, faith, and sobriety were at the center of his life. He was so proud of his sobriety and would have been 2 years sober in October. He cherished spending time with his family, having spent countless hours on the road pulling their 5th wheel exploring the United States. They visited dozens of national parks and over 30 states together and were fortunate to squeeze in a lifetime of memories in his short time on this earth. He loved sharing his love of fishing with his kids, visiting local ponds to see who caught the biggest bass or heading down to Eufaula to see who would catch the most crappie. He also loved his chocolate shakes from Braums. His kids will forever remember their, way too frequent, late night trips to get Braums Ice Cream.
While Nic’s servant’s heart may mostly be remembered by the community as a firefighter, it went way beyond that. The best way he showed his love to friends and family was with acts of service. He was always ready and willing to help anyone in need, and being quite the handy man he was, he helped a lot of people! Any time his wife presented him with an idea to build something, he would somehow find a way to bring it to life. For example, by simply seeing a picture of a revolving shoe carousel, he built one in their closet for his wife while she was away on a work trip. There are many walls and houses that he has painted, as one of his many side jobs. So his presence will be felt and seen throughout Bixby and our surrounding areas for many years to come.
Nic is survived by his beloved wife Laura, children Bryce & Blaire, parents Olin & Jonna Guthrie, brother Brian (Wendi), in laws Melanie & Todd Files, and Randy & Charlotte Wenninger, and several nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and his brothers at the Fire Department.
Nic was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tooter & Peggy Guthrie and Oscar & Martha Frisbie
