Please Help Support the Dudoit Ohana!

Around 10:30p the night of March 24, 2021, two days before their 16th anniversary the Dudoit ohana’s lives drastically changed. Kanoelani and J.R. had found their home engulfed in flames. The fire nearly burnt their house to the ground and took everything but a few belongings. They lost their clothes, photos, computers, electronics, books, art, ceramics, jewelry, bed, bedding, furniture, pet stuff, dishes, certificates, gifts, tools, saddles, etc. Luckily, they and their animals, who they considered to be their children, were all safe.

Their house of over 10 years was more than just a house filled with materialistic items. Memories were built there from 4 generations of fun, laughter, family gatherings, and squeezing numerous people into one tiny space. Though it was small, it brought many together. This home created fond memories for not only them but many of those growing up within the Ho’olehua Homestead community on Moloka’i. Everyone knew that this home was a safe haven and welcomed all that needed it. It had a way of allowing all those who entered to know that equality exists here, no one was judged, looked down upon, or expected to be someone other than themselves.

They are sad for losing something so dear to their hearts. But by staying positive helps them find the strength to keep moving forward. Some days can be rougher than others, yet this has opened up the next chapter in their lives to a fresh start, new beginnings, and everlasting memories. This experience has brought them closer together than anything ever has before. It has truly taught them the real meaning of the word “gratitude”. This had made them better, stronger, and willing to take on all that comes their way.

The Dudoit ohana is so very thankful for all the prayers that are being sent their way and continues to ask for support from those who are able. This will assist in their efforts towards rebuilding their home and the lives they once had. They would also like to send out their deepest “mahalo” to the families who have already shared their warm-felt “aloha”.
