Hello, my name is Maureen and a family very near to my heart needs our help. Jamie, a retired NYPD officer, his wife, Rosamaria, who is active in the Kings Park community, along with their daughter Kayla, were told in 2003 that Alexa, still in utero, had hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare condition that causes a portion of the heart to under-develop.

The Rands family decided to travel from New York to Boston Children's Hospital, where heart surgeons were performing a new, experimental operation. Alexa was only the third infant in the world to survive it.

In 2007 she then had a pacemaker put in.

Fast forward to current day, Alexa is back in Boston Children’s Hospital where she underwent open heart surgery and is currently in critical condition in the ICU. I wanted to create this go fund me for the many medical expenses incurred in the last several weeks.
