Susannah Garrett- Kerr Funeral Fundraiser

With great sadness, I need to inform everyone that our wonderful Susannah passed away at 5:15am, 1/14/2021 at Calvary Hospice in New York. May her spirit stretch, rise high, and fly free.

I’m Georgia Blake. Susannah and I were friends for 6 years; we shared a charming Bed Stuy apartment where we drank endless cups of tea and talked into the night. Over the last 10 months while she was in hospital, we spoke frequently about her health, she reminisced about her childhood, such as her fondness of riding horses in the cold dewy pastures of North of England and her dreams of revisiting Thailand.

Unfortunately, she was hospitalized during the pandemic, which made things especially tough: visiting was mostly restricted, and she was unable to go outside; she missed her independence dreadfully. I live in Australia and felt helpless, as I am sure many of you did. Thankfully, her dear friend Aaron was with her as much as he could, navigating the ridiculous American health system (I don’t know how he did it) and Susannah was immensely grateful for his help.

 Susannah was 55 years of age with so much more life to live. She had truth, a love of life & wisdom in her heart, a loyal friend and advocate who helped many. She was an only child with no living parents, aunts, uncles, children or partner. Her 7-year battle with cancer and depression took all her savings so now Aaron and I are looking to friends and loved ones for help so we can honor Susannah’s wish for her ashes to lay with her parents and give her the tribute she deserves.

Aaron is arranging the cremation and the costs for a basic cremation and internment is between $7,000 - $10,000 USD. Any updates regarding location and times will be posted here.. There is so much that can be said about Susannah, this can be a place for messages, memories. Please contribute what you can and feel free to pass on this campaign to others.

Susannah Kerr lived 3 lifetimes in her 55 years!

She took no prisoners and did what she wanted; she loved Thailand and, one day when no one was looking, she flew to Bangkok and stayed for 6 years!  She befriended an influential Buddhist monk and he opened the door to her favorite job as the prince and princess’s, now King and Queen, of Thailand’s personal English tutor.

Travelling all over the world in their private jets, she stayed in 5-star hotels and dined at the best restaurants in the world.  At the time, she was the only white person with full access to the palace and everyone knew her by her first name;

She lived in Hong Kong for 2 years, travelled by herself for 4 months by train through India, and lived in Laos and Cambodia. She had also lived in England for 16 years and simultaneously in Brooklyn, Texas, and Oklahoma with her aunt and uncle and cousins.

After studying at Exeter academy and the Han School in Princeton, she was accepted into Cambridge University where her father taught as a full Professor of History.

We would frequently walk for hours in New York!  No one could keep up with her, especially me! She could walk 50 blocks and then walk back the same way without breaking a sweat.

Unfortunately, she developed metastatic breast cancer, which also took her mother, grandmother, and aunt.  Other than this cancer, Susannah was one of the healthiest people I’ve known; she didn’t need to see a doctor for over 20 years!

Susannah was like a sister to me and I can’t imagine life without her.

Your caring gift will allow us to give our wonderful Susannah the dignity of a permanent resting place with her beloved mom and dad.
