Life has taken an unexpected turn & gut punched us.

Update:
Husband ended up hospitalized for 6 weeks. Inpatient treatment. He has now been diagnosed schizophrenic with brain trauma from lesions on his brain. Still not sure what exactly we are dealing with & where this came from. Have been told that stress & Covid along with the past brain trauma from a wreck could play a role in it. I myself had to be hospitalized again for 5 days for a second surgery because the doctor wouldn’t listen when I told him something was wrong & I became septic & obtained an abscess the size of a softball & a nasty infection & staph. The antibiotic that I have been taking is a last resort antibiotic that kills everything. The wound vac that they put me on is working as far as closing the incision however I am showing signs of something wrong with the mesh now. Swelling in my abdomen around the area. Home health has been wonderful and staying on top of things but fixing to have another scan. It has been 4 months and I have worked maybe 40 hours. I was able to get us both on Medicaid so at least our health is covered, we were approved for snap on the Sept 6 so that helps.

Hi my name is Cindy. I’ve never imagined having to ask for help but unfortunately it’s the position I find myself in. At the beginning of May of this year, I had what I was told would be a simple abdominal hernia repair that should have, at most, put me out of work for a week. The one small hernia turned out to be three that needed a more in depth repair with mesh. This pushed my recovery out by another two weeks. I did try to go back to work, however there were complications from the surgery that sent me to the emergency room. This yet again pushed back my recovery and my return to work date. To top everything off I as well as my husband Jerry started showing extreme signs of Covid and consequently tested positive. While my symptoms resolved in a somewhat timely manner my husband’s only worsened. His symptoms started to turn neurological which coupled with past brain trauma has caused some form of intense fast on-set psychosis. We have been to the hospital three times and had multiple doctor’s appointments with little to no results. Each doctor has had different findings with everything leading up to a week ago last Monday when he had to enter inpatient treatment. While he is now currently home he cannot be without supervision for extended periods of time. Until we can get real answers and true diagnoses we are unable to apply for disability since he will likely not be able to return to work in the near future or possibly ever. To add insult to injury, last week I fell down my front porch steps and ended up with a broken finger and a sprain in the opposite wrist. For the past several years I was the caretaker for a disabled veteran. When he unexpectedly passed it left us in a tough financial position. I was able to get a position with a local in-home caretaker agency. Unfortunately the pay was no where close to what I had been making and did not offer any benefits. I am returning to work next week but won’t receive a paycheck for at least a month. This puts us behind on bills by three months minimum. My job pays bi-weekly but you have to work two weeks then wait two weeks for that paycheck. I’ve sold everything we can manage without. We try our best to live modestly and within our means. We don’t have cable, we eat at home, and in general do all we can to not spend money. I just don’t want to loose my home. I am just asking for help keeping the lights and water on and pay my small mortgage of $250.00 a month. I’ve never looked down on anyone who needed assistance but I’m truly struggling with the thought of asking for help. If you’ve read all the way to this point I truly appreciate it. I understand that many are in the same position if not worse. If you can help, all I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart.
