What's Happened
On December 29th this last year, George Fuller was admitted into Tampa General Hospital for an emergency after his family saw what looked to be signs of a stroke with weakness on his left side. An MRI was conducted and it was discovered that a stroke was not the cause of his symptoms. The image taken showed a large mass in the back of his right frontal lobe. Surgery was performed on January 3rd.
The surgery was a great success. 97% of the tumor was removed. When George was brought out of anesthesia, he started talking up a storm and wanted to see his family right away. There where hugs, kisses, and he even had a few jokes. He was his ol’ self. Though the surgery went very well, the surgeon informed the Fuller family that the mass was discovered to be a high-grade glioma. A final pathologic diagnosis was given on Jan. 7th that the tumor was glioblastoma brain cancer. Glioblastoma is an extremely aggressive cancer with a high probability that it will reappear again. The recommended cancer treatment from the hospital is a combination of radiation and chemotherapy.
The Fuller family has decided that the conventional cancer treatment route is not the best route and has opted to instead enroll in a new phase ii trail for an experimental cancer treatment for George. This trial is performed by Dr. David Baskin at Houston Methodist Hospital.
The Trial
The idea is to hijack the cancer cells with a herpes virus, wait for it to infect all the cancer cells, and then take an anti herpes medication which in turn destroys the cancer as well. This trial is in it’s 2nd phase and went through some tweaking a little over a year ago after it was showing some promising results.
One of the first patients to try this trial has survived for almost 12 years now , most of those years without any signs of glioma. Some good news for the Fuller family is that since this trail is still a phase ii trial, there is no possibility of George ending up in a control group. Everyone in this trial receives the real deal without any chance of a placebo. At this point, there have only been 9 others who have taken in this trial and some of those involved are showing very promising results.
How To Help
In order for George Fuller to be a part of this trial, he will have to stay in Houston for a couple months to begin the treatment process. George will require a caregiver throughout this whole process and His family will be sharing and alternate those responsibilities. They will also have to fly to Houston every 6 weeks after the initial first 2 month trail for about a year for monitoring.
Expenses will also include air travel, car rental, rent for room and board, food, and other miscellaneous needs. Please help this family by donating to this campaign to help cover these expenses and to show them your loving support!
I have personally known Mr. Fuller and the rest of the Fuller family since I was 8 years old. Mr. Fuller is like a second father to me and is someone I respect and love. He is a beloved husband, father, and new grandfather. He has a lot to live for.
Please help him and this family by donating here. Please keep this loving family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
Thank you!
Very Respectfully,
Charles Hays
