Please Help the Otto Family

I have been staring at this blinking curser for what seems like hours, trying to figure out where to start. I suppose I should begin by introducing myself. My name is Sarah Otto. I am married to my best friend, Jason, and together we have a brilliant 4-year-old daughter and a beautiful 4-month-old son.

Jason is a talented and passionate sous chef and dedicated family man. I am foremost known as "Mama" and am dutifully charged with keeping the kids alive and locating my husband's hat and keys. In what seems an alternate reality, I am an artist and have ambitions to becoming a shrink. Jason and I are broke. We have been struggling for years to improve our financial outlook, but it seems that every step forward has taken us two steps back, and now we need your help.

After much debate, my husband and I have decided to ask, quite publically, for money to help our family.

In 2013, we moved from Texas to Colorado with our baby girl in hopes to build a better life for ourselves. Jason wanted to broaden his culinary scope, and it was my plan to attend graduate school for art therapy, which is a degree program not available in Texas.

Housing and childcare in Colorado are ridiculously expensive, and despite our best efforts, we failed to thrive there. I still haven't been able to start grad school. About a year and a half ago, it became clear to us that we would be facing homelessness if we chose to stay in Colorado and decided to move back to Texas when our lease was up in May, 2016.

On January 1, 2016, I found out that I was pregnant with our little rainbow baby. He is a well welcomed addition to our household, but the timing just wasn't ideal. I had a miserable pregnancy, which was compounded by all the stress of moving.

When we finally moved into our rent house in Texas, we quickly discovered that the property needed extensive repairs, tipified when a set of window blinds broke when Jason tried to close them and they landed on our daughter's face. We had a significant and unexpected cut in income, right off the bat. I was in and out of the ER at least 5 times with complications with my pregnancy. Our son was born 3 weeks early, and just a few days after we brought him home, contractors began repairing the foundation of the house. We were forced to spend 3 days in a hotel room.

At the beginning of December we received notice that our landlords have decided not to renew our lease next year. They are "strongly encouraging" us to find another place to live as soon as possible and have to decided to waive the early termination fee so we can do so.

We simply can't afford to move again at this time. We can't afford much needed car repairs. In truth, we can't really afford clothing, Christmas presents, and sometimes food. Our poor dogs is sick and we can't afford to take him to the vet. We are drowning. We have had to beg and borrow money from our parents, who have truly been the heroes of our story, and we just can't ask them for any more.

We are asking you, fair residents of social media, to help us move our family into a safer home.  Truly, anything you can spare will help.  One dollar, five dollars, anything.

The house we are currently applying for can be available in as soon as a few weeks. The money we receive will be used to cover deposits and moving expenses.  Anything left  will go toward paying off some of our debt, so hopefully we can finally start to move forward.

We will be so grateful for any help you can give us. Thank you.
