When the doctor called my Dad and said you have cancer, our world came crashing down. We came together and decided we were going to fight this beast that had overcome my father’s body. In August of 2023 they had told him he had stage IV lung cancer, he had a small tumor in his lung and a large tumor in his leg. We went for a second opinion and was told it was not lung cancer, he had Sarcoma. They started him on radiation and he completed treatment. His pain had improved and we were hopeful that the radiation had almost eradicated the nasty disease in his leg. On November 15th he got re-scanned and we were told that his cancer has spread rapidly. His lungs now have 15 nodules and his leg is full of cancer with little bone left. He was then was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called PEComa (Perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms). This rare form of cancer affects 30 Americans a year and you have a 1:1,000,000 chance of getting it. Due to this rarity it was no wonder this was misdiagnosed for so long. The only doctor within a thousand mile radius to help treat him is Iowa Cities teaching hospital. Iowa City is over 3 hours from our home and he has to go there every week for infusions. We ask with a heavy heart if everyone can come together and help us continue this fight by providing the funds needed for transportation, lodging and medical expenses.
My father is the most loving, giving man I know. He would give everything he owns and ask for nothing in return to help someone in need. When I was a child, I will never forget the time he had helped a family in need. He saw a family walking everyday with no car. They walked in the rain and cold to get groceries and supplies for their family. My dad gave them rides several times but one day he changed their life. One morning he picked them up and then gave them the keys to his second car. Told them he didn’t want anything for it. He changed their life forever. This was just one incident of the thousands that he has showed his heart of gold. I do not know why someone with a heart so pure would be given such unforeseen circumstances. But with the help of you and I and the rest of the community we can help him. Let’s keep this great man in this world longer! Any contribution will help. Thank you all for taking the time to read about this amazing man. We will also be doing bake sales and other fundraising events in the community so keep a look out for those as well.
