UPDATE 12/5/22:   

Jose is having 4 surgeries today- on his knee, tibia, ankle, and foot.  And he’ll continue to be hospitalized at least 8 more weeks, meaning he will not be able to spend Christmas with his wife and babies.

My name is Carole, and I am a close family friend of Jose and Asteria. Jose was one of the L.A. County Sheriff cadets who a driver struck down in Whittier on Wednesday morning. The other cadets said he was thrown at least 20 feet in the air. He suffered blood on the brain, bruising on his heart, a broken nose, elbow, ribs, knee, leg, and ankle, and his foot was so badly mangled that they thought they might have to amputate it. Luckily they were able to save that foot last night during a long surgery. There is quite a road to recovery ahead for them, and they could use your help. There will be at least four more surgeries and much rehabilitation. After serving in the US Marine Corps, he dreamed of becoming an LA Sheriff and would still like to realize that dream. Jose and Asteria have two babies at home, and with the long recovery ahead, they will need much assistance. If you would be so kind, they would greatly appreciate any help you may be able to give.
