UPDATE 9/16/23:
Thank you again to EVERYONE who supported this fundraiser! All requests have been reviewed and while it was not possible to fund each one 100%, everyone who put a request in is receiving funds to assist them with fire-related expenses.

$6558.73 was available to pay out after GoFundMe fees were deducted from the donation total.

Here's a breakdown of expenses covered by category:

Food $100.00
Furniture Replacement $1,003.73
Moving $500.00
Storage $1,500.00
Temporary Housing $3,455.00

Thank you, thank you!

UPDATE 9/15/23:
Request forms are being reviewed and funds have begun to be distributed - thank you so much for making this possible!

UPDATE 9/7/23:
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this fundraiser! It is now a little over 3 months since the fire. The boiler was replaced and was up and running in July, and most tenants in back-facing units were able to return to their homes. Tenants in units adjoining ones that had to be demolished (all the front-facing units were demolished and must be renovated) are still waiting to return, which will happen after clean-up from the demo occurs. Tenants in front-facing units had to completely vacate and find new housing. We have created a request form for tenants to be able to access the GoFundMe donations, and distributions will start shortly!

UPDATE 6/20/23:
Day 20 since the fire. Tenants in all 51 units of the building's right section are still displaced. Everyone in that section with front-facing apartments needs to completely move everything out so demolition can begin mid-July. Tenants in back-facing units are not allowed to return until the broken boiler is replaced "sometime in July". Tenants in the 21 units of the building's middle section that are connected to that boiler are still without hot water. Please give whatever you are able - this ordeal is a huge upheaval and expense for those impacted!

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
On the morning of May 31, 2023, a 3-alarm fire spread through the 1980 Commonwealth Avenue section of our apartment complex, Parklake Realty, in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, MA. 71 residents have been displaced, along with their companion animals, for an unknown period of time.

People are scrambling for places to live and for ways to cover so many unforeseen expenses such as temporary housing, food, replacement of items damaged by fire/water, cleaning of smoke-infused clothes, missed work, .... Many who live at Parklake have called the building home for years, including seniors and families with young children; it is a community, and this emergency displacement is stressful and disorienting for everyone.

We appreciate any donation you could make to assist. Please note that donations are gifts to our community members and are not tax deductible. Any unused funds will be donated to the Oak Square Y who generously opened up their shower facilities to undisplaced tenants who do not have hot water, and to the Allston Brighton Community Fridge Group who has offered so much help and support.
