Support Jennifer during her recovery from TBI

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am Jennifer McIntyres daughter. I am creating this go fund me on behalf of my mother.

On Thursday August 31st Jennifer went in to cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped beating and she was not breathing. Her good friend Jack heard her fall from outside and he rushed in, and immediately called 911 and began CPR per their instructions. Once the paramedics arrived, they continued CPR for about 30 minutes. This means her brain was without proper oxygen for half an hour. My mother survived, but she now suffers from an anoxic brain injury. She was in a comatose state for about a week, then began to show signs of waking up. For the following week she began to open her eyes and was painfully aware of the ventilator. She faught long and hard during breathing trials and they were able to successfully remove the ventilator as she proved she could breathe on her own. They told us she was then in an “unresponsive wakeful state”. She could not communicate. But we saw in her eyes how badly she wanted to keep fighting. Finally she began to speak, although most of what she said did not make much sense.

Now she is in a nursing home. She can talk, but she can not follow commands, nor can she sit or stand on her own. She is able to have short conversations before she drifts away again as if she’s constantly hallucinating. Unfortunately we are not satisfied at all with the care she’s been receiving at this nursing home. She’s fallen out of bed twice, they neglect her personal hygiene, call lights stay on for hours at a time, and more. I’ve documented everything since she’s moved in there. We would love it if we could somehow find some place better for her. And someday we hope to bring her home again.

My mom handles all of the household bills. She is her mothers PCA, who is my grandmother Judy. We are raising money to continue to support my mothers home and help with my grandma.

This was entirely unexpected so no preparations were able to be made. Anything helps, and we would be enterally grateful for any support at all. We are truly heartbroken by this. My mom is one of the sweetest souls on this Earth. She deserves a second chance.
