“I want to live”.
This is the cry of journalist Kamal Poudel, who is fighting against the second bout of cancer. Poudel defeated the disease, whose name is enough to terrorise ordinary people. He returned home in Biratnagar to see his old mom and months-old daughter last year after surviving the blood cancer at the Civil Service Hospital in Kathmandu – thanks to the generous contribution from friends and well wishers across the world.
No sooner had Poudel begun to recuperate than he contracted the coronavirus. He defeated COVID-19 too but not without a cost. The infection revived his cancer and Poudel is back in Kathmandu. Doctors say he needs a bone marrow transplant , treatment that could enable him to see his aging mother and the baby daughter again. But Poudel, who already exhausted his savings and pulled all possible family resources during his treatment earlier, lacks funds for the expensive treatment.
Lying between life and death he says does not want to die. He cries : “ I want to live. Please help.”
