Thank you for helping us bring Adrian home

Dear friends and family of Adrian, and those of you who may not know him, we are Adrian's fundraising team; Julie (Mother), Trent (Father), Bridget, Laura (Sisters) and Abi (Auntie). Adrian is a much loved son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend of many. He has always been an energetic soul, who loves to go out and live life to its fullest. He has been very lucky to be able to see much of the world working on different yachts over the years as a valued crew member.

Sadly, at 8:22am on Wednesday 3rd January 2024, Adrian was involved in a road traffic accident in Thailand. Initial reports informed us that he was on a motorcycle hit by a car. He had to be intubated at the scene and have emergency surgery on a leg injury as soon as he was admitted to hospital. He sustained multiple serious injuries in the accident, including severe head injury, knee fracture, a broken rib, broken arm, shattered pelvis and dislocated hip, broken leg and facial trauma. He has been in a coma and on life-support since the accident and remains unable to breathe on his own. We are hopeful that he will wake up, as he has opened his eyes, and has moved his left hand, but for now he remains in a coma.

Thankfully, he was travelling with his passport on him so he was able to be identified at the scene and we were able to be alerted of his condition. We received the heart-breaking news that Adrian was in hospital in Phuket on life-support, when police arrived at Adrian’s mum’s house at 2:00pm on the day of his accident.

As I am sure you can imagine, all of the medical care he has needed has come with significant costs associated. Unfortunately, Adrian was travelling alone and we do not have any record of insurance for him. Since he is in a coma and has been since the crash, we have no way of accessing any information from him. At the same time the hospital is demanding payment for the treatment he received immediately at the scene and for the lifesaving surgeries that he has already undergone. They will also require future payments for his on-going care in the ICU. This means that we have needed to pay for his life saving care ourselves. Whilst we have managed to pay over £15,000 as a family, to get Adrian the lifesaving care he has needed to this point, we now need help to pay for his on-going care. We have looked into it but are unable to get financial help from the embassy or obtain any other financial aid.

In order to continue with Adrian’s care, and hopefully eventually bring Adrian home, we are asking you for your help.

We are hopeful that this community can help us raise the money that we desperately need, with which we will be able to a) continue paying for Adrian’s on-going medical bills (including further surgeries and life-support), and b) bring him home via a medical repatriation, on a commercial flight with a medical team, when he is ready. Medical repatriation has been discounted as an option at the moment due to the severity of his injuries. We are anxious to bring Adrian home as soon as we can. It is incredibly difficult for us that he is going through this on his own, on the other side of the world. We would like to be able to support him through the remaining medical care he needs and the many months of physical rehabilitation, in the UK, if possible.

We will be updating this site as the situation changes. We don’t know exactly how much money we need to raise but we do know that we need at least £65,000, to cover the on-going care he is receiving in hospital at the moment, and hopefully the medical repatriation fee, in due course.

Please help us bring Adrian home.
