Please help us bring Aki home

Earlier this year, OG Waikiki Beachboy, Aki became seriously ill with unexplained high fevers, pain and dizziness. After a serious fall, he suffered a concussion and some fractures to his eye. Trying to find the root cause, there were numerous, trips to the ER, hospital and doctor’s visits. Much to our dismay, we finally got word of his diagnosis, Stage 4 Liver Cancer.

“When someone tells you you’re going to die, you feel like you lost your best friend.”

Those were the words he told me as he processed the difficult news. If anyone knows Aki, he has such a profound way of saying things.

If that wasn’t hard enough, it was determined that his fast growing tumor was inoperable and because of its size and location would cause him to have sepsis, a life threatening infection and complication. Luckily, Aki’s determination and resiliency pulled him through and he managed to get better. But more action was needed, the only way to combat the sepsis was to put a drain into his liver, another risky procedure. As of today, the drain is leaking so he is back at Kaiser Hospital to get it corrected and repositioned. Crossing fingers that all will go smoothly and successfully.

For those who don’t know, Aki is no stranger to cancer. He was previously diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and underwent a Whipple surgery, one of the most risky medical procedures. Needless to say, he fought his way back to health and was cancer survivor for the past 7 years.

And in true Beachboy style, he’d use his large jagged scar across his belly to joke around at the beach, telling people he got bitten by a shark. Gotta love his sense of humor. lol.

But now, unfortunately he is facing another cancer battle and needs our help. His current state and placement is hospice care and his medical coverage does not provide long term care. We are hoping to raise funds so he can return home and to be cared for and surrounded by his family and loved ones. The monies raised will help his family hire part time caregivers who can assist with his 24/7 medical needs.

If you are able and feel inclined to help, his family would appreicate any donation you can make. Most of all, they are extremely grateful for all of your kind words, prayers and Aloha. Mahalo for your time and support! ❤️‍
