Please Help Us Build A Community Kitchen

Dear friends and supporters,

We stand before you with a shared vision and a humble request. Our beloved Greek Orthodox Church, Zoodohos Peghe, and its cherished, affiliated elementary and middle school, the Greek American Institute, have been pillars of the Bronx community for over a century. Throughout the years, we have embraced the biblical teachings of compassion, generosity, and hospitality. Today, we turn to you, our extended family, seeking your support as we set out on a transformative journey.

Inspired by the miraculous story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 in the wilderness (John 6:1-15), we embark on a mission to rebuild a kitchen for our church and school to be able to better serve the community, and to continue to support and uplift those in need. We believe that food has the power to nourish not only bodies, but also spirits, fostering unity, compassion, and hope.

In the humble kitchens of our students’ families and our parishioners, countless meals have been prepared to serve the hungry, offer solace to the grieving, and bring joy to community celebrations. However, our community kitchen is dilapidated, which does not allow us to gather and prepare meals more efficiently and in greater quantities, hindering our ability to continue our mission effectively.

With a lofty goal of raising $800,000, we aim to create a kitchen that befits our vision of service, an oasis where culinary excellence, a sense of community, and compassion unite. A place that transcends the mere act of preparing meals, becoming a haven of sustenance and care for all who seek it.

Your donation will go directly towards building the kitchen, allowing us to install durable but affordable appliances, build large storage and preparation areas, and create a warm and welcoming environment.
