We are a family of three: my parents and me, my name is Maha, my father’s name is Mohammed, and my mother’s name is Mai. We are from Gaza Strip, Palestine. I am three years old. I enjoyed a beautiful life filled with love, tenderness, and happy stories with my parents. We had a big, beautiful house. My parents cared for me a lot and did everything to make me happy. I had a beautiful apricot-colored cat that I named Lulu. I took care of her and couldn’t live without her because I love animals very much.

Then came October 7, 2023, and my family’s life turned upside down. We had to leave our home, my father lost his job because the company he worked for was bombed, my mother couldn’t complete her master’s degree because the university was bombed, and I lost my favorite cat and all my toys. Now, my parents and I live in a dangerous area close to the clashes, and I am always scared, especially at night. I don’t know if I’m more afraid of the sounds of stray dogs or the sounds of gunfire, explosions, and missiles.

I have gone through very difficult days and nights. I have witnessed the destruction of my neighborhood and many explosions just tens of meters away from me. My family and I have survived certain death many times, and I don’t know if we will survive until the end of this war.

I want to escape from this hell and the ongoing suffering we experience daily. Here, there is nothing for a decent life—no food, no water, no medicine, not even milk or diapers. Every dollar you donate to us is a chance to escape certain death in Gaza. I am still young, and my parents are young too. We want to start a new future and a practical life away from the bombings, explosions, and recurring wars in Gaza. We are innocent civilians and have no part in this; we deserve a better life than this.
