Please help us fund Gatsby’s extensive surgeries

Donation protected
Hello everyone, our names are Grace and Harry and we are the owners of the beautiful, 6 month old Gatsby!

Gatsby did not come home on Saturday night which is most unlike him. We looked for him Saturday night and Sunday and it wasn’t until we saw a dog barking at an object in a bush that we realised it was Gatsby. It felt like fate that we were out looking at the exact same time.

He was alive. Extensive trauma to the face, breathing very fast and very hot to touch. He was hit by a car/motorbike on Botley Road and found outside the Parish Council Building in Fair Oak. Gatsby had been sat in the cold for we believe, around 22 hours.

We grabbed him and took him to a 24hr vet where he received wonderful stabilising care. Their recommendation both Sunday night and Monday morning was euthanasia as they felt the trauma sustained was too much however, his observations had stabilised and he no longer had a temperature thanks to the antibiotics.
We transferred him to a specialist hospital yesterday morning where further scans could be carried out to ascertain the extent of the damage.
We are constantly battling with him being 6 months old so has a long life ahead of him and him needing to have a good quality of life during that time.

What we know so far:
Bottom jaw is broken in half
Top jaw is broken in 3 places
Nose is broken
Eye socket is fractured
Loss of the Right eye completely, potentially loss of vision in Left eye also
Broken Femur
Hip ball and socket broken

Despite all of the above, day 3 today and he is still alive. He had a very stable night and the plan will be to discuss the surgeries needed to fix some of the trauma. The quote for his jaw surgery alone is £6000.

Gatsby has the highest level of insurance cover, nonetheless, due to the extent of the damage, the insurance would only cover half of what would be required.

It is with a heavy heart that we ask for any donation towards the surgeries needed for Gatsby. He is fun and sassy and terrorises his brother Frank everyday. He is doing his part and fighting every hour, the least we can do as owners is everything we can to ensure he can have the best care and the best chance of survival. Thank you all so much for reading, here are some photos of him for you to enjoy… yes he thinks he is a squirrel!

31/01/24 - Day 4, Gatsby is still alive! The vet referred to him as ‘Bright’ this morning and managed the night without oxygen support. Very high possibility that he will undergo his first surgery today if the anaesthetic team remain happy with his bloods. Femur surgery and eye removal is £5500, Jaw reconstruction is £6000. Please continue to share this link and thank you all so much for your continued support!!!
Frank misses you little man…

01/02/24 - Day 5, Gatsby is still alive! He survived his first surgery yesterday on his femur bone. He is heavily sedated because when he is not he is trying to rip out the cannulas, rip off the cone and escape from the cage but on the whole he is doing very well. Needs to rest, build up his strength and then potentially another surgery on Monday to align the jaw! Continue sharing guys, he is still fighting!! Thank you so much for your continued support xxx
