Please Help Us Heal Our Brains

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Karen Risch. I have had the distinct pleasure of being the editor for Paul and Layne Cutright's first two books. We have also been friends for 30 years. This extraordinary couple need our help to heal from severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).

They are brilliant way-showers who have carried the banner for creating successful soulful relationships since 1977.  Four years ago, Paul and Layne were in a freak and near fatal accident. Since that event they haven’t been able to work.

I’m asking you to join me in making-a-donation and generously sharing this page. We need to raise $25,000.00 plus. If only 1250 people give $20.00 each, we will reach our goal!

Below is what they have shared with me.

While we were driving home from the grocery store something truly horrifying happened to us. A 7000-pound truck (2017 Ford F150 dual cab), landed on the top of our car.

It was a freak accident. How does a 7000-pound truck take flight? The driver at the carwash that ran parallel and twelve feet below the street level we were on had lost control of a customer’s truck as he was driving to the detail area. He was stomping on the gas pedal instead of the brake. He ran the truck into a curb and up a grassy embankment. That's what caused the big red truck to take flight through the trees that lined the street.

Paul and I both saw the grill of a truck in the uppermost right corner of our windshield. In one moment, our lives, filled with passion and devoted service to ‘help transform the way the world relates’ was crushed. Seeing the truck in the air, Paul quickly turned left to try and avoid the inevitable crash. The truck landed on the top edge of the roof of the passenger side of the car. If he had not reacted so fast, and if the truck had landed squarely on top of our car, we would both be dead. Abruptly we went from our dream life to sometimes wishing we were dead.

In the photos below you can see where the truck landed on the edge of the roof over Layne's head. The truck then slid down the side of our car, smashing in the front and rear passenger doors causing our car to spin around facing oncoming traffic. You can also see the impact on the front passenger seat where Layne was sitting.

Her face and body were covered with broken glass.  She suffered broken ribs, a broken hand and collapsed lung. She was going in and out of consciousness. Once the paramedics pried her out of the car they moved her into the ambulance that brought her to the hospital. She was in the intensive care unit for four days.

One of the things worth adding is both of us have severe TBI since the accident, but our symptoms have been different. The excruciating truth is, from the beginning we both have needed to be nursed and supported because neither of us has had the capacity to help the other. In hindsight we should have had a part-time nurse/advocate quite early in our recovery. Instead, we've soldiered on doing the best we can without that kind of help. It has been painfully inadequate.

Our symptoms have included extensive short and long-term memory loss,
exhaustion, depression, deteriorating vision, easily triggered into debilitating hopelessness and helplessness. We’ve suffered exaggerated emotional states of sadness, impatience, frustration, anger and fear.

But the tractor-beam of Love and Light that has held our vision in the forefront of our 44-year career is still with us.  We feel that undeniable pull, but we can't do anything about it right now. Our grief for that loss is excruciating.

We are determined to heal! We've been able to buy a leading-edge brain stimulator that generates new synaptic pathways that has already helped us. But we also have needed physical therapy to be used with the device. We found a place locally that can supply that and more!

Layne has been through their basic five-day series of treatments to see if it actually makes improvements. And it did! So, now Paul will take the same series of treatments. If it goes well, we will go on to their more advanced treatments. That's why we need $25,000.00.

We appreciate any actions you may take to help us heal.

With love,
Paul and Layne

PS  We've heard that if people make a comment after they make their donation it helps.
So those of you who already know us, what do you remember about us. Thanks again!
