Please Help Us Keep Our Home of 25 Years
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kathryn Rushent. My sister, Jessie Spiece, and I have shared a home in Airdrie, Alberta, for 25 years, where we also keep a cat sanctuary for abandoned and/or abused kitties we rescue. Jess is 71, and I am 61; we survive on a fixed income of her pensions and my disability.
Earlier this year, Jessie's bank account was hacked multiple times, and we were forced into the protection of a consumer proposal to try just to survive in this crazy economy. At that point, we were one month in arrears on our mortgage. But this month my account was hacked - somebody dropped a counterfeit check in my account, and all hell broke loose. I've had to start a brand new bank account. But in the meantime, we missed another mortgage payment, so we're now 2 months behind.
As you can see from the letter pictured above, our mortgage bank has now swooped in, demanding immediate payment of 3 mortgage payments, along with legal fees! Even if every cent of our income were given over to pay that, we wouldn't be able to make that amount - and, of course, other bills continue to pile up as well.
We got our first 5 inches of snow last weekend. I'm terrified that Jess and I will end up living in our car with our kitties, in the middle of the notorious Canadian winter. I know I've put up GoFundMes before, but we have never been this close to the brink. I don't know what else to do. This year has really beaten us down. Jess is under a doctor's care for deteriorating hips and knees; there's no way she can get a job. And I have osteoarthritis. The only place either of us could work if we could even get a job would be the local WalMart, and our health just isn't good enough for that.
Please, if you possibly can, help us keep the home we've lived in for over 25 years. Any amount would be so appreciated, by both us and our furbabies.
