Please help us keep our minibus on the road

I'm raising money in aid of THE FURZEDOWN PROJECT minibus, which provides a vital service, helping people with restricted mobility get to our activities, and every donation will help ensure it's future.

The bus was damaged by fire on Friday 20th October, when an electrical junction box in the pavement outside The Project burst into flames next to it. There were no injuries but the van was damaged and has had to be taken out of service, we don't yet know how serious the damage is and the insurance will help, but we are having to hire a Wandsworth Community Bus whilst the repairs take place.

This really brings home how important having transport is!

I am not just raising money for bus repairs (hopefully to be covered by insurance) but for it's long-term future. Before the accident we were struggling to keep it running - we have a small team of volunteer drivers and have to cover all the running costs, which is getting more as it's now over 10 years old. But without it, our the most isolated and vulnerable members will find it very difficult to get to the social and healthy activities we provide.

The Furzedown Project is an activity centre and social hub for people aged 50 and over, based in Furzedown, in the London Borough Wandsworth. It is a charity and not funded by the council, although we apply for as many grants as we can and hold fundraising talks and events (like the one cancelled because of the fire).

We are proud to be an independent, self-help, user-led organisation - tackling isolation and loneliness amongst older people by providing a lively programme of social, educational, recreational and health-promoting activities (supported by our assisted transport service). We also offer a Befriending service that offers socialising through outreach programmes...
