Bruce Sinor of San Francisco, CA passed away unexpectedly from a major heart attack on July 14, 2023. He was 58 years old, having been born on February 13, 1965.
Bruce left this planet suddenly while pursuing his passions, of which he had many.
He was great working with his hands, building all kinds of things to help others. This is despite a disfigured right hand he suffered in a horrible electrocution accident as a 10-year old boy in Ft. Bragg, CA that landed him in the St. Francis Hospital burn unit for a year.
His greatest passion was music. He chose the French Horn in school, mostly because it was an instrument he could play with one hand while hiding the other. He became an excellent musician. As a youth, he fine-tuned his skills over two years attending the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. In San Francisco, he was a member of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band for more than 24 years. He also performed with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony Orchestra, where he was a founding member in 2008. He played with the West County Winds band, the Nevada County Concert Band, the Community Music Center in San Francisco, the Capitol Horn Choir of Sacramento, and the Corte Madera Town Band.
Bruce was more than just another musician. He became part of the leadership of many of these groups. Most recently, he was the Assistant Conductor and President of the Corte Madera Town Band. As if that wasn’t enough, Bruce served on the board of the Lesbian Gay Band Association (now Pride Bands Alliance) and until his passing, was the President of the board of the Jon Sims Endowment Fund for the Performing Arts, a million-dollar nonprofit financial organization. Bruce leaves behind many shocked people in all of these organizations.
Bruce’s passing was only the latest unspeakable tragedy to befall this family. In 1997, older brother Scott was paralyzed from the neck down in a vehicle accident. He lived as a paraplegic for 4 years before passing away in 2001 at age 39. Sister Danielle was tragically killed in Hawaii by an SUV while riding her bicycle in Hilo… on her birthday in 2022.
Bruce left behind his younger brother Billy (the only living sibling), parents Bill (from California) and Ginger (from Colorado), and many close friends. His sweet dog Tracy is deeply mourning Bruce. Niece Ellie (from California). As a close friend with good tech skills, I was asked by Bruce’s remaining family to organize this GoFundMe campaign. I was honored to do so.
Memorial events will be planned.
Bruce was never one to ask for help. Yet, he was always among the first to volunteer to help. We ask you for your help now, as we remember Bruce. His unexpected and devastating loss has left his family and close friends stunned. They need your help with the costs of Bruce’s medical care and funeral and memorial expenses.
Thank you.
