Please help us remove Fiberglass from our home
Donation protected
It took alot for me to put this page out there .... We need help ... It will cost $6,000 to clean our home enough for us to safely move back. The remediation company I will use has to: 1) vacuum all surfaces (ceiling, walls, floors, all my personal items and furniture); 2) Take apart and clean the HVAC system and seal it so anything left does not start to circulate again; 3) run HEPA air purifiers to suck out all the fiber from the home while it is being cleaned. It will take 4-6 guys 2 days to clean our home. My son and I then have to pack up our clothes, bedding, towels etc and wash all that before it can come back into the home.
Any donation is highly appreciated. If nothing else, I am sharing information that fiberglass contamination is an issue and that you need to be careful. The most stories I have read about this coming up for people is from memory foam mattresses and people taking covers off to clean and ending up in a fiberglass nighmare...
My son and I live in Brooklyn Park, MN ( or I should say we lived in Brooklyn Park, MN). We are now hopping around in hotels and sheltering with friends.
I purchased a home at the end of 07/2020, it was a pre-foreclosure and needed some work done, new floors, painting, appliance... long story short, I spent all the money I had saved. Infact, I still owe on the appliances.
We moved in 08/26/2020 and I had the vents cleaned on 08/27/2020... My son and I were pretty excited to have our own space. Fast forward 2 weeks and I started feeling like things were bitting me especially when sitting on our sectional in the living room. After a week of these, I contacted exterminators, bug sprayed the house, got rid of my sectional and rug.... but the problem persisted. On 9/25, an exterminator came out to diagnose what kind of bug we had (I was convinced we had an infestation); I should say we do not have bug infestation as confirmed by the exterminator. The exterminator noticed that he started to itch while in my home and also that his clothes were covered in a fine shiny dust that he recognized as fiberglass.
We have fiberglass particles in my homes air. It is everywhere. In the HVAC and air ducts, in our furniture and personal items (our towels, clothes, food etc). It is in our skin and hair ... you have no idea how itchy it was.I am not sure how the house got contaminated but it became unliveable for my son and I.
Finding anyone to help clean the home or even that knows what I am talking about has been hard. I am sure some of you are thinking: "I have never heard of that...". I echo the fact that I had not heard of "a fiberglass contamination" before it happened to me (to us).
I want to say that fiberglass is all over most homes. It is used as insulation, a fire retardant, and to stiffen plastic. It is in a lot of things including clothing, bedding, mattresses, floors, insulation etc. My friends it is everywhere. It is also apparently in the air vented from homes into our neighborhoods. Some people are hypersensitive to it and others my not feel the effects. You sore throat, digestive issues, pain in muscles etc could be related to this. The list of symptoms is endless.
