Please help us save the life of a baby donkey
We are raising money to save the life of a baby Donkey born at Donkey Dreamland on Sunday 11th April 2021
Back in September 2020, you, our friends and supporters, helped us save the life of a pregnant donkey. The donkey, who we called Esperanza, or Hope, in English was in danger due to being kept in a field surrounded by uncastrated males who, in all likelihood, would kill the foal in order to bring the mother back into 'heat'. We're happy to say, that all went well and Esperanza has lived her past few months in peace and tranquillity, whilst receiving the best care possible at Donkey Dreamland
Unfortunately, we are in need of your help once again - This time for her baby . . . .
At 07:30am on April 11th, Esperanza gave birth to baby Luz. However, it soon became clear that things were not as they should be. As Esperanza lay there, with Amaya, our Founder helping the delivery, she realised that this was no ordinary birth, as Esperanza was having twins!
Now it should be said that twins in Donkeys is extremely rare, in fact it's estimated that only around 1.5% of all donkey births are twins, a very low number considering there are around 40 million donkeys in the world. It's also rare for the twins to survive, in fact only 10% survive the birth.
The sad news is that one of the twins didn't make it, who we have called Angel, and yes, understandably we are all extremely sad about it. But the good news, and it is a miracle, is that the second twin did survive, which is baby Luz.
That said, baby Luz is poorly and is currently in hospital receiving oxygen through a mask, milk through a tube and blood through a transfusion from Esperanza in order to help raise his oxygen levels.
Baby Luz is in intensive care and is being looked after by six dedicated vets who are trying their level best to help him survive - and this is where you can help us . . .
We hate asking for money, but this treatment is very expensive. In fact, day one of Intensive care amounted to €1,300 with day two costing a further €700, and that's just the first two days.
We have no idea what the final cost will be, but we need to raise as much money as we can to help save this poor baby foal's life and to enable Esperanza to live a happy life without having to come to terms with the loss of her two babies.
Please, Please, Please, help us if you can, we really do need your help, as we're we are a rescue centre, and a new one at that, and we really don't have this kind of money. to hand.
Thank you for your continuing Love and Support at this worrying time.
