Please Help us with moving & new home expenses
Donation protected
Hi my name is Pat and I am trying to raise the funds needed to get our furniture and possessions moved to a smaller townhouse in the area & to either setup an emergency fund, or cover the cost of a
storage unit for the items we won’t be able to take to our new rental property, but don’t want to give up either.
We have been married for 34 years and like most people we have had our ups and downs, but over the past few years there have been far more problems than solutions.
‘When my husband was forced to retire early due to Disability it became difficult, if not impossible to pay the Mortgage on time, but we did the best that we could to maintain it because my husband grew up in our home, his parents were the original owners, and we bought it from his fathers estate when he passed away.
‘Eventually the mortgage got significantly behind and I reached out to the Lender for assistance and we got a Mortgage Modification but the modified payments with a portion of the past due funds added to the payment made the monthly payments extremely high, but we paid them anyway just to keep our home.
I had made the third of 3 trial payments in December and the Modification became final, but then my employer closed its doors and I was laid off at the end of December.
I was determined to keep our home, therefore I liquidated my Retirement account and used the proceeds to pay the mortgage while I was unemployed, and although I eventually did find FT employment again, the income wasn’t sufficient to keep making the payments & the mortgage company would no longer offer any compromise that we could manage.
We had no choice but to give up our home and find a rental property.
My husband has been a Volunteer FireFighter, he has also worked as a Career Firefighter, we have both been Volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians, and when my husband’s physical limitations required him to retire early on a disability pension, he still wanted to support his community and fellow First Responders, and he was instrumental in establishing and running the first “Rehab” unit in the area which provides Support Services for the firefighters and other emergency workers by providing food, drink, shelter, either cooling stations or heat, portable restrooms, chairs and tables.
Approximately 3 years ago my husband suffered a significant stroke which left him with right sided weakness, balance issues, memory problems & some gait issues.
He was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and is undergoing treatment for this however last week he was suddenly stricken with a serious case of Cellulitis of an unknown origin, and he suddenly was unable to use his right hand, it became so swollen and painful that he couldn’t move it.
We were instructed to go immediately to the ER so that he could be given IV antibiotics, and although they were administered there was little to no change in his condition and he was admitted to the hospital on Thursday of last week.
It is now Monday and the hospital will not discharge him because the infection seems to be resistant to the antibiotics and he needs to remain admitted for intensive treatment. It is unclear whether his Psoriatic Arthritis and the medication for same, or the Cancer treatment, or even his Diabetes may have contributed to him being so susceptible to infection.
I am hoping that you understand the difficult situation that we are trying to deal with on so many levels, and if there is any way that you can help by providing a donation towards the movers bill, an emergency fund, or even help us to afford a storage unit we would be most grateful, we don’t even want to ask for, but if we can’t move our furniture and possessions in time, the lender could have the Sheriff evict us and lock us out of the property.
My husband has devoted his entire adult life to helping others, and I am praying that someone will be willing to help us at our time of need.
Thank You
