Please help with Callie McCune’s medical fight

Hi everyone, some of you may know me as one of Cara’s oldest friends from high school. I’m writing this on her behalf today to reach out to all of her family and friends.

This is not only to fundraise on her behalf but also to keep you updated and let you know that the fight is not over! Callie is still fighting hard for her life and we need to keep praying, please!

Callie McCune needs us ALL more than ever.

We are living a nightmare. Callie has been fighting a rapid case of pneumonia since 8/11. She was immediately admitted to the hospital on 8/15 in the afternoon. That next morning at 4am she was admitted to the Peds ICU. Callie has been rapidly declining and the pneumonia had completely filled her left lung. Xrays and ultrasounds show more aggressive action was needed. She had gone through 4 more breathing machines with no luck. Now she shows a full left lung of pneumonia & collapsed right lung with only 1/4 of good lung left to use. More aggressive treatment was required to keep her stable. Yesterday early am she needed to be intubated and induced heavy sedation because she was not able to hold any oxygen in what little lungs she had left. This progressed to ARDS. Drs. have worked around the clock with no success. Dr decided that the care she needs was beyond their capacity at Kaiser and she was sent by ICU Ambulance to UC DAVIS children’s ICU.

Last night she had an operation called ECMO. This went well but was a long procedure. She had a good night last night and is comfortable and stable. She is still under heavy sedation and will be for a couple of weeks so her body can try and heal.

We have had such amazing dr.’s & nurses. I am heartbroken that my baby is clinging to life. She is a true, honest beautiful soul. Mama loves you so much.
