Please help Zoe receive episioplasty surgery

Tax deductible
Hey everybody, Dogma Duane here. Most of our followers are familiar with the birthday fundraisers on Facebook. This year I'm holding my birthday fundraiser through GoFundMe and it is benefitting a very special dog, Zoe. We've had Zoe in our program for almost a year now. We knew something was different about her right away, but we weren’t sure of the specifics. Zoe’s anatomy is not that of the average female dog. We took her to numerous veterinary hospitals and visited a handful of specialists trying to figure out what was wrong with this girl. Each time we heard the same sounds of surprise, curiosity, and confusion. No one had seen anything quite like Zoe. At first, we weren’t sure if she was female, male, or something in between. Once it was established that she was female, the next steps were to determine the nature of her malformation, and whether or not it could fixed with episioplasty surgery. Zoe’s genitals were underdeveloped in-utero, and this causes her frequent and painful urinary tract infections. We finally found a specialist who could perform the surgery to reconstruct Zoe's genitals but he wanted to wait until she was sexually mature. The past year has been a nonstop cycle of urinary tract infections followed by extended rounds of antibiotics. Sometimes it takes as many as three full cycles to kill the infection. Untreated, these infections will increase in severity as her body becomes resistant to antibiotics. Ultimately her kidneys will fail, and if that doesn't kill her, other organs will begin to fail causing systemic organ failure. That's a long way of saying that she will die of infection.

We want Zoe to lead a healthy, well-lived life, but we can’t do it alone! Your contribution helps ensure we can afford to get her specialized episioplasty surgery, which is currently scheduled to happen in March. The rescue has been able to cover her hospital exams, medications, x-rays, ultrasounds, and other expenses so far and her foster moms have done a great job making sure she has supplements, sanitary wipes, comfortable bedding and other items to make Zoe more comfortable. They are also committed to providing her the best post-operative care possible.

We've always said rescue is a team effort that can't be accomplished unless everyone steps up. At this time Dogma needs all of our supporters to step up. Adoptions are slow, donations are down because of the terrible economy and paying for these vulnerable dogs suffering from life-threatening injuries has drained our reserves. Every dollar helps. Please consider making a difference in Zoe’s life. Such a wonderful dog deserves to thrive and live her life to the fullest.
