マウイ・ラハイナ火災救援寄付案内ガイド

皆さんこんにちは。マウイの日本人を代表して私がご挨拶をさせていただきます。岡崎友子といいます。

現在日本でもニュースになっているようですが、マウイはハリケーンの強風で山火事が急激に広がり、一番の観光地、歴史的にも有名なラハイナの街が一晩で焼け野原のようになってしまいました。まだ一般人はそのエリアに入れないのではっきりしたことは分かりませんが、聞いた話によると街より手前プアマナビーチ付近から街中のアウトレットモールの辺りまでは全て燃えてしまったとのこと、そして火はまだおさまっていない状態です。

ラハイナハーバー、フロントストリートは跡形もなく、マウイに住んでいる日本人の中にも家全焼、全て失った方も現在わかっているだけでも数人おり、これからも大変な状況は続きます。

私たちは東北の震災の時にマウイに住む日本人を中心に寄付を集めたり、応援をする仲間が集まって色んな形でできることをした経験があります。

Pray for japan from Mauiという名前で活動し、正確な金額ではありませんが５００万円くらいいろんなところにいろんな形で寄付することができました。それもマウイのコミュニティーの常に困ってる人を助けるアロハの精神のおかげです。そしてその時マウイで何かあってもきっとみんなが助け合うだろうと安心感が持てたのを覚えています。

皆さんの中にはマウイが大好きで通ってる方も多いと思います。あるいはいつかは行ってみたいと思ってる方もいるでしょう。

マウイが日本の被災者のことを思いながらたくさんの寄付やドネーションをしてくれたりしたように、今度は日本からマウイに愛とアロハを送っていただけないでしょうか？

金額の大きさだけではなく、日本からもみんなが思ってるよ、ということを被災した方に伝えたいという気持ちもあります。

未だ火事も収束していない状態なので集まった寄付をどう使うかもはっきりは決めておりませんが中心となる仲間で相談し震災の時もそうだったように、本当に必要なところに必要なものが届く、目に見える援助をするための資金にしたいと考えています。なので集まった金額の全てを何に使ったかしっかりご報告いたします。

集まる金額にもよりますが、マウイ在住日本人の方で本当に困っている人たちからまずお役に立てればと思っております。家が全焼してしまった方、家は残っていてもそのエリアに入れないという方から始め、金銭以外でできる支援も含め、いろんな形で被災された方々への支援をみんなでできればと思っております。あくまで日本にご縁があるところを頭においてはおりますが、それに限らず本当に必要なところに届けられるよう常に変わっていく状況に対応し、動いていこうと思っております。

Hello to everyone in Japan and around the world.

I’m Tomoko Okazaki, the organizer for this fundraiser.

On behalf of the Japanese community in Maui, our hearts are very heavy for the people who lost everything, lost loved ones, still in search of family and friends. We set this fundraiser up to make it easy to send donations from Japan, to provide monetary and life essential goods and services to friends, families, businesses and the community in Maui affected by this disaster.

After the 2011 Tohoku earthquake disaster, the Japanese community in Maui came together under “Pray for Japan from Maui” to raise funds for those affected. We were moved by how the Maui community responded with so much aloha and empowered us with hope. It brought huge relief that under devastating times, we’d always have the support from this amazing community. Many of us from Japan have traveled to, fell in love with, and/or been inspired by Maui. Just as Maui stepped up for us over a decade ago, we hope to return the love and aloha back to Maui from Japan.

Our team’s strength is being on the ground and right with the community here in Maui. Over the next coming weeks and months, we intend to provide immediate and effective support to those in need, including financially supporting those who have lost their homes and businesses, providing living essentials, and helping rebuild the community, including businesses and organizations that have been a huge part of the Japanese community here.

We are surrounded by so many who are willing to offer their fields of expertise. Our promise to your donations is to utilize the volunteers as much as possible and reserve your donations for essential spending only.
