Jason and Becky are amazing parents, advocates for their son. They unfortunately have been going going back and forth from UofM to Hartland.
They have children at home and their oldest is in College in New York. They could use our help.
Jason and Becky posted this on their Facebook
The last few years have been a real struggle with our son. He has pretty severe ADHD and ODD and he's socially and emotionally delayed. He struggles a lot in everything. And it's been progressively getting worse.I have spent the last 15.5 years fighting for him, advocating for him, crying for him, & pleading with him. All the while, he won't fight for himself. He's stuck in really dark water and he can't swim out, which has us drowning in it as well.
We're so sad. We feel like failures. But, we're hopeful that he'll get the help he needs as well as coping skills he needs to be productive and successful.
Please send up all the prayer for him.
Also, I guess it's time for an update.
We are still in the waiting room at UOfM. This is night 4 that we are here and night 3 that we are sleeping in chairs at the psychiatric Er.
At 630pm we finally got answers as to why we are still here. Unfortunately Michigan has three hospitals (possibly a 4th) that deals with adolescents that have ADHD, ODD and are cognitively delayed. One being UOfM, they only have three beds, Harper Oaks in New Baltimore or Stonecrest in Detroit.
We found out that due to his other medical issues that he can only be admitted to one of these facilities due to the need of staff and more one on one care. The hospitals pick and choose the cases they want to take and at the moment no one has picked his case or his insurance has blocked it. There are laws that prevent UofM from looking in other states so this isn't a option. We could leave on our on and do the research. However we would have to go through Livingston County Mental health for permission and it had to come to heated discussion to get us here.
We were told that there probably will be no discharges tomorrow so we will be here another day/night tomorrow.
We will continue to sit here with the hopes that one of these facilities will pick him at the beginning of next week. The social worker stated that she has seen kids sit in this waiting room up to 2 weeks before getting chosen.
With everything inside us we want to pack up and go home. However, what Elijah is going through is bigger than Becky and I. So we will continue to sit here and fight for our son so he will have a successful life.
