Please Support Deane's Journey

We are overwhelmed by the love and support from our family and friends. Originally I was embarrassed to include the need for $6000 due June 1st for Deane’s apartment @ Bricker of Scioto (UA). You’ve proven me wrong so I’m asking now.
Deane, my husband of 51 years, suffered a severe ischemic stroke on the last day of January 2023. He has spent the last 102 days either in the hospital or in a rehab facility. My heart breaks to witness him going from hope and determination to severe depression, it has been a roller coaster ride for both of us.
Medicare uses a recovery algorithm: if the patient isn’t making progress at the pre-decided rate, insurance coverage stops, then Medicare gives you a 48 hr notice for the patient to relocate. During his 2nd round of re-hab, we were given a two day notice with the choice of bringing Deane home, or placing him in a permanent assisted living facility. We brought him home for 6 days until his blood pressure dropped and speech started to slur requiring him to return to Riverside Hospital. His 6 days at home were challenging and filled with adjustments but he was home. We hired First Light Care Givers (they were wonderful) for 24/7 care. Cost was $4,127.13.
Deane is currently thriving at Norwich Springs of Hilliard (highly recommend this facility). I’m an emotional wreck that Medicare will bring his progress to a halt once again. We can’t afford to bring Deane home (his needs require 24/7 care). I found a permanent residence studio @ Bickford of Scioto (UA) Assisted Living which required a $2,100 deposit and costs $200/day once moved in. Our long-term care insurance will reimburse up to $205/day. If Medicare decides that Deane can stay at Norwich til the end of May, he will have a room waiting at Bickford. Since pre-payment is required, we’ll need to pay $6,000 prior to June 1st.
Special thank you to our oldest son, Jason, who has been by our side everyday supporting us emotionally and financially. Deane & I are so proud to have him as our son.
Why this Go Fund Me? Our total out of pocket has been $4,127.13 + $2100 + $6,000 or $12,227.13. We will be reimbursed 20% eventually. Asking my friends and family to support DEANE’S JOURNEY with as little or as big of a donation you feel is best. Blessings to all. Paula
