In a split second & without warning, Elsie’s life changed forever. As many of you saw on the news, on 5/22/22, Elsie sustained multiple severe burn injuries due to an explosion in her apartment. She was rushed to Baystate Hospital, where doctors decided she needed to be life-flighted to the nearest specialized hospital. Even when bad weather prevented the flight, she was rushed via ambulance to the Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Unfortunately, Elsie suffered first and second-degree fire and chemical burns on her extremities and face. The doctors continue to monitor damage to her lungs to prevent intubation. As you know, Elsie already battles a very debilitating Psoriatic Arthritis that contributes to her agony. Elsie currently has a feeding tube and is sustaining tremendous physical and psychological pain from this traumatic event. On Friday, 5/27, she underwent her first skin graft surgery, and she would have her second surgery on Tuesday, 5/31.

Elsie works as a mental health case manager serving families of children and adolescents in the Springfield area. However, she will not be able to return to work in a while, as the doctors predicted she could be in the hospital for a month. She had already lost her apartment and most of her belongings. Elsie does not have any family in Massachusetts, and it breaks their heart to be far in this time of need. Elsie’s family, friends, and coworkers pray for her successful recovery and know she will fight hard to get back on track. We humbly ask you to consider supporting her during this challenging chapter of her life. ANY AMOUNT is a blessing to Elsie and her family. All funds raised here will be used to assist with bringing the family from Puerto Rico to visit her at the hospital and cover medical, legal, and housing expenses that can add to the overwhelming process.

En una fracción de segundos y sin previo aviso, la vida de Elsie cambió para siempre. Como muchos de ustedes han escuchado en las noticias, el pasado 22 de Mayo, Elsie sostuvo múltiples quemaduras severas debido a una explosión en su apartamento. Fue transportada de inmediato al Hospital Baystate donde los médicos decidieron que necesitaba ser transportada en helicóptero al hospital especializado más cercano. Aun cuando el mal tiempo impidió el vuelo, ella fue trasladada de emergencia a la División de Trauma, Quemaduras y Cuidados Intensivos Quirúrgicos del Brigham & Women's Hospital en Boston.

Desafortunadamente, sufrió quemaduras de 1er y 2do grado, y quemaduras químicas en las extremidades y la cara. Los médicos continúan monitoreando daños en sus pulmones para evitar entubarla. Como saben, Elsie ya lucha contra una Artritis Psoriática muy debilitante que contribuye a su agonía. Actualmente tiene una sonda de alimentación y sufre un tremendo dolor físico y psicológico a causa de este evento traumático. El viernes 27 de Mayo, se sometió a su primera cirugía de injerto de piel y el martes 31 de Mayo, tendrá una segunda cirugía.

Elsie trabaja en el área de Springfield, sirviendo a familias de niños y adolescentes con graves trastornos emocionales. Sin embargo, no podrá volver a trabajar por un tiempo, ya que los médicos predijeron que podría estar en el hospital por un mes. Elsie ha perdido su apartamento y la mayoría de sus pertenencias. De igual forma, ella no tiene familia en Massachusetts, y a su familia les rompe el corazón estar lejos en este momento de necesidad. Todos estamos orando por una recuperación exitosa y sabemos que ella hará lo necesario para recuperarse. Humildemente le pedimos que considere apoyarla durante este desafiante capítulo en su vida. CUALQUIER CANTIDAD es una bendición para Elsie y su familia.
