It is amazing how your whole life can seem to be flipped upside down in one moment. I am going to share what has happened to our family over the past three weeks to the best recollection that I can. Looking back, it is just such a blur. It has taken me a long time to sit down and write this for many reasons. If you were to see Kelly today and have a conversation with him you would probably not think there was anything different. I thank God everyday for that. I thank God for his timing, for our amazing team of doctors and nurses, and for our family and friends that stood by our sides during these last few weeks and continue to.
This post will be a little long...
Kelly over the last few months could tell that something was not quite right with his memory. He had even done some research on it to see what he could do to improve it. He had been forgetting names of friends or couldn't remember new co-workers. I just kind of brushed it off as to we are getting older now and we all have trouble remembering things. But, he asked me to schedule him a doctors appointment with his primary care doctor on Sept 1st to see if he could help him, or if he had any ideas as to why he wasn't remembering things.
So we went to his appointment on September 1st, (Starting Tuesday Kelly had a headache and was having a hard time getting words out). Simple words. The doctor had him do tests that he was unable to do and then sent him home with an antidepressant and said to come back in 2 weeks. Hmmm......
The next day, Wednesday, he still had a headache and words were still a little off but drove himself to work. At 10am he called me to come get him- and that something was wrong and then the HR director called me and said something is wrong I should come pick him up.
We went to the ER and after a CT scan they found a 5.5 x 4.5mm mass on the left side of his brain. There was so much swelling and that was what was impairing his speech and memory. The swelling had to go down before they could remove the mass.
So, we waited... Kelly was not happy about being in the hospital for 4 days just sitting... September 5 they took him around 6:30am for an MRI and then surgery was scheduled at 7:30am. At 1:30 we finally received word that the surgeon was able to remove all of the tumor that he could see! PTL!
We now know what we are up against and the attitude that he has is nothing short of what God has put in his heart to fight this. We know that the road ahead it going to be tough, but Deuteronomy 20:4 says it best,
For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight against your enemies, and he will give you victory!
I have already seen such a fighter in my husband! I am so proud to be his wife and fight this fight with him and be right beside him every step of the way!
Love,
Briana
