A bit of background ...

In 2019, I had the honour of visiting the blessed land of Palestine. Whilst there, a team of us delivered some aid to a number of deserving causes throughout the West Bank. One of these worthy causes, was to support an elderly care home - the Beit Al-Ajdad - in Jericho, which is a Palestinian city in the West Bank. The photo shown on this page was taken during my visit there!

I am now seeking your support to help the senior citizens living in this home, to live in dignity.  The Beit Al-Ajdad is a residential home which strives to meet the basic living needs of the elderly citizens living there, who arrive destitute. Unfortunately, due to shortages in funding, those running the home are unable to adequately meet the needs of their residents, which severely impacts their quality of life. They have a shortage of food, clothes, and medicine. As we know, age often comes with a manner of health problems. Tragically, lack of funds for medical care has led to some of their residents suffering a deterioration in health, and even losing their lives due to an inability to access the necessary healthcare treatment they need.

To the best of my knowledge, the Beit Al-Ajdad, is the only such care home for the elderly that exists in the West Bank. The residents are able to live there free of cost. The residents are amongst the most vulnerable in Palestinian society. Many of them have mental health problems. The home is comprised of individuals who either have no remaining family, or their families cannot or will not shoulder the responsibility of looking after them. If they didn't have this support to protect and take care of them, they would most likely be on the streets.

I would be so grateful if you could help me to honour the dignity of these elders, and help give them hope for whatever future remains for them.

No matter where in the world they are, our elders hold a special space as it is because of them we have been able to get to where we are today, so let’s look after them in the Autumn years of their life, insha'Allah (God willing).

What will the funds go towards?
With everyone's kind help and generosity, the funds will insha'Allah go towards the most pressing needs which have been identified by those managing the home:

1. Food and clothes
2. Medical expenses
3. Refurbishment of the bathroom, as it is not currently fit for purpose
4. Pocket expenses for the residents

Zakat, Sadaqah, Sadaqah-e-jariah, all accepted.

I have spent a significant amount of time carrying out thorough investigations and due diligence to the best of my ability, before setting up this project. I am in direct contact with those managing the home, to whom the funds will go for them to administer accordingly. I have also had the nature of this project verified for zakat eligibility by two independent scholars.

As I have personally visited this home and spent time with the residents, this further motivates me to help support them. They are fun, loving people who deserve to live in dignity and comfort, insha'Allah.
