Denicia was a talented and caring soul devoted to mental health awareness, culinary, art, acting, and modeling. She was very focused in the arts and took pride in spreading mental health awareness and helping others. Denicia Marie was a beacon of light within her community.
She had a separate passion for animals. She called herself reptile queen identifying with her love for reptiles as she owned a turtle, snake, bearded dragon, and other reptiles. She believes this species of animals was the most subtle but most underrated within the animal kingdom.
In 2009, Denicia started her acting career by being featured in Diaries of a Shopaholic (2009). She always had a knack for storytelling and acting and expressed many stories with her art pieces. Acting wasn’t the only expression that she used to demonstrate her creativity, but it was also art. She told her life stories and explored her imagination usually with a paintbrush and a canvas, making the illustrations larger than life.
Another art that Denicia was highly devoted to was: culinary arts. She took several cooking classes and loved to share her creations with family and friends. Cooking was a passion of hers and making unique dishes that were unique from the standard southern fare that she grew up with. The specialties ranged from Middle Eastern, Italian, American and Asian cuisine. Some of her creations and photos of her actively cooking are included in the photo section of this GoFundMe.
Unfortunately, she was involved in an accident resulting in a brain injury. She had brain swelling from the impact of the accident and suffered from the after-effects of this trauma. She continued to live her life to the fullest despite this disability.
Denicia was a huge advocate for mental health, surviving the almost fatal fall from a 6th-story building. This incident appeared on the local news. She still held onto hope and tried to make the most out of life after this experience. She actively volunteered in the Bridgeport community and was an Americorps member for the Fairfield County area. Her passion for promoting mental health awareness pushed her to earn a mental health credential from Housatonic Community College. She was a lifelong student alwaways expanding her knowledge of psychology and sociology.
Not only was Denicia a role model for actively helping her community, but she was a very caring soul to anyone she came across.
Denicia Marie leaves behind a daughter, Zhjona (20) who will carry on her mother’s legacy. She was a loving sister, cousin, and aunt to many Jefferson family. Denicia’s death was very sudden and her cause of death is currently being investigated. We are currently raising funds to cover the cost of the funeral and burial expenses and additional aid for Denicia’s only daughter as she transitions to live life without a mother and on her own.
We will raise funds and hold two memorial gatherings at Metric Grille and Miss Thelmas for Denicia’s repass in celebration of her life. If you were a friend or acquaintance of Denicia or can relate to this story, feel free to stop by and cherish and say farewell to Denicia at one of the two events listed below. We (Jefferson Family) greatly appreciate any donations made and will be providing future updates. Please refrain from asking sensitive questions at this time, but please share any happy or impactful memories you have of Denicia in the comments or at the events listed below.
