Jess and David, two dedicated local nurses in Bundaberg, have always been there for our community. David, working across two hospitals, and Jess, serving in the mental health department, have given so much of themselves to care for others. Just 18 months ago, they relocated to Bundaberg to strengthen our healthcare system, bringing with them their four daughters, aged 16, 15, 13, and 11, whom David has embraced as his own.

Two months ago, their world was turned upside down when David was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer. As if this weren't enough, a significant leak was discovered in their family bathroom, adding to their challenges. Recently, David underwent surgery and faced complications, leaving him in intensive care. His stomach and upper intestines are no longer functioning correctly, adding to the uncertainty and stress.

Despite these hardships, Jess has been tirelessly balancing her full-time job, hospital visits, and caring for their children. When David is eventually discharged and begins chemotherapy, his compromised immune system will prevent him from using the same bathroom as the rest of the family. Currently, due to the leak, everyone is relying on Jess and David's ensuite.

With David unable to work and the family surviving on Jess's single income, they are facing significant financial strain.
