X needs safe housing! Please help a Black queer teacher
Donation protected
Hi, all. I’m Nneka and I’m writing to ask for your help to support Xavier (aka Sky). Xavier is a well loved Black non-binary teacher in the community that is currently facing eviction from their apartment of 3 years. They have experienced many losses recently impacting their ability to pay bills and medical expenses. Xavier was working for a nanny family in January that they were referred to, but after slipping on ice and injuring their lower back and tailbone on 1/18/24, the employers were not willing to continue the nannying agreement and fired them. The unexpected cost of taking care of their medical needs after being injured and immobilized for 3 weeks, in addition to losing the job has added to severe depression and struggles to fight to be here. Xavier has shown up time and time again for their friends, family, peers, kids and other community members. They are currently hired as an independently contracted substitute teacher and the kids cry when they are relocated to a new site each week! The impact Xavier has on everyone doesn’t go unnoticed. While they are earning income, Xavier is still short on rent and their apartments don’t accept partial payments. Even after the court’s eviction summons stated that individuals should move forward to try a payment arrangement with the apartment property. Xavier is facing eviction May 13, 2024 if they don’t get the funds. Due to the loss of work and wages earlier this year, Xavier really needs our help!!! Community, I am calling you to action to help this queer Black leader to meet their goal with your contribution. Your help could be saving their life. When one of us is not well, we are all unwell. We are so grateful to anyone who is able to help. No matter how large or small the donation, you are appreciated.
