I don't want to have to leave my own flat...

Hello. I really hate having to write this. It feels ridiculous asking for help at a time when the World seems to be in so much trouble, but if you've got a moment, and any little amount of money you could possibly spare...you could really make a difference to my life.

My parents gave me every last penny they had to help me buy my small flat, in South London, which is in a building of ten other flats (pictured below). The landlord/freeholder is Lambeth council who have, in the last year, finished various 'major-works', works to the building (new roof, window frames, exterior paving, interior painting). I consider these works to have been undertaken very badly by their contractor (for example only a month or so after the roof had been renewed, at least three of the ceilings in the flats below fell through, completely, following rain). I am not certain these works were necessary and even if they were, they ought to have been done years ago and staggered, meaning there would be less cost to pay at any one time.

MY share (alone) towards these works is currently estimated at £98,000 ( that's right! ). It's in my lease that I must pay. If I can't raise these funds ( I am unable to get a mortgage and declaring myself bankrupt won't help as the bill stays on the property) I will lose my home! I have no other options.

The council has already threatened court action for not paying (see pic at bottom).

Anyone who knows me knows what I've been going through. I just can't begin to describe how much this figure of money is affecting every aspect of my life, my ability to work, my personal relationships, my mental health. I just do not know what to do.

It seems so horribly unfair that someone can place such a demand on someone, for so much, without any care.

To most people £98,000 is a ridiculous, life changing amount of money. To some, it isn't.

I am asking you to spare any amount you could find in your heart (or more importantly pocket) to donate to help me reach my goal and change things for me for the better. Really, anything. It would be so incredibly kind of you.

I'd be happy to show you more relevant documentation/invoices if you'd like to see. I'd imagine Lambeth council would also confirm said works and price.

Thank you so very, very much

J
