Support Young Musicians

Donation protected
Positive action - Let's support a brilliant community project supporting young musicians!

In its sixth year, led by the success of this empowering program, we are now a Community Interest Company! Please donate to help us continue our workshops and jam sessions for 2023, while we set the stage for the next ten years.

Who we are

Powderham Live! C.I.C. was born from the inspiration to offer young musicians in Devon an inclusive and accessible place where they can connect, collaborate and grow. With funding for the arts in education reducing and many families unable to pay for music lessons or invest in equipment, there are fewer opportunities available for young musicians. Powderham Live! is here to change that.

Powderham Live! C.I.C plans to raise enough money to provide all their young musicians with workshops, gigs, mentor support, jam sessions, industry contacts and recording opportunities in a year-round programme focusing on development of music and performance skills, building confidence and supporting mental health.

Our values:

Connect; with the community
Support; skills development
Empower; young creatives
Promote; collaboration

Each participant of Powderham Live! receives free access to:

A diverse range of workshops tailored to their individual needs
Live performance opportunities
Local industry contacts
Professional video and sound recording opportunities
Jam sessions
Mentor support
A support network of like-minded young musicians

Background

Since 2016 Powderham Live! has welcomed almost 200 young musicians aged 13-19 from all backgrounds across Teignbridge, Torbay and Exeter. The programme spans a range of musical genres including a lineup of duets, bands and soloists at every level and has seen tangible outcomes of improved mental health and musical progression.

"Not only has Powderham Live! supported me with my confidence and mental health, it has also helped me make connections and meet so many talented musicians." - Performer aged 17

With funding for the arts in education reducing, many families are unable to pay for music lessons and there are fewer opportunities available for young musicians. Powderham Live! was born from the need to support local young musicians and offer a comfortable and accessible place to grow. Now, more than ever, this is essential.

"You have all supported and helped create a much-needed sanctuary for these musicians during these strange times. Thanks again for giving our kids the opportunity to feel empowered as themselves. Here’s to them.” - Parent of performer

Next Steps

As an accessible programme free to all young participants, we rely heavily on funding and donations from like-minded organisations who share a passion for music and the empowerment of young people. Unfortunately, this summer we were unable to secure the correct level of funding and donations we need for our 2022/2023 cohort. After much thought and discussion, we have decided to pause this year’s activities and take a ‘planning’ year. This extra year will give us more time to fundraise for the following year.

Your support and generosity are crucial to our journey.

We are immensely proud of the work our community has done so far and honoured to see how many young artists have flourished since joining the program, but this is just the beginning. There are still thousands of young artists in the South West who do not have the right support or funds to help with their progression. We would love to develop and grow Powderham Live! to help reach a wider demographic and offer our current musicians a wider variety of skills.
