Pluto’s Double ACL Surgery

On January 6th my parents came home from lunch while I was at work to find Pluto not putting pressure on his back right leg. With the thought that it could possibly be a pulled muscle or worse case scenario a torn ACL I took him to the vet the next day. They informed that it probably is a partial ACL tear and to keep him on low activity and anti inflammatory meds for 10 days. This helped a lot and he was pretty much walking normally again. A couple days later he slipped on our hard wood floor re injured his leg but this time he wasn’t putting pressure on it at all. I took him to a different vet where they said it is in fact his ACL but we can’t confirm that it’s torn completely without xrays so you will need to come back. In the mean time he was put on a higher anti inflammatory and put on crate rest for an additional 10 days to see if it would heal. (Which I later found out was no possibility of healing on its own). The next day, January 15th while being taken outside to pee his other leg gave out and he was unable to get up. We rushed him to the emergency vet where they confirmed that in fact he has torn both ACLs and he will require a TPLO Bilateral ACL Surgery for him to be able to walk normally again. As of right now he is unable to walk without having his back legs put in a sling and held off the ground. ALC tears are very common for my boys breed (Pluto is a pitbull boxer). Now it is common that once one ACL tears the other one is to follow within months, but to tear both of them within a day seems about as unlucky as getting stuck by lighting. Due to him not having a good leg to walk on it is crucial that I get the surgery as soon as possible in order to start the long healing process for him to get better! My boy is just shy of his 4th birthday and has many years ahead of him, without this surgery he will never be able to run again or walk normal at that without feeling pain of scar tissue and arthritis.
Anyone who’s knows me knows this dog is my entire world. I know the pandemic has hit all of us hard, and while I am so very fortunate to have a job right now I was not financially prepared for a major surgery, let alone two at one time. All money raised will go to the surgeries and recovery Pluto needs. We are forever thankful for anyone who is able to donate anything! And if you can’t donate we so very much would appreciate good healing vibes and your support for my boy to make a speedy recovery. Thank you all!
