Julie Elizabeth Garofalo (also lovingly known as Jules, Lady, Miss Julie G, Sissy, Auntie, Queen) experienced a horrible incident within the walls of her own home. Jules, along with Julie McDonald and daughter Alyssa Mcdonald had recently adopted a rescue dog. They were committed to providing him the best furry life they could and were in the early stages of bonding and falling in love with this boy dog. Tuesday July 14, 2020, on her way to bed, Julie knelt down to snuggle and kiss the dog on the head. He attacked her face. She was raced to Montefiore Hospital in Nyack, NY where she was treated by a plastic surgeon and received 22 stitches to her mouth and cheek, and repair to a sliced muscle in her face. She is also tending to superficial wounds on her arm which was injured as she tried to protect herself. The doctor projects a 9 - 12 month healing process. The initial out-of-pocket hospital and doctor expenses that Julie is looking at stand at $6081.03. Additional funds raised beyond that will be used for any follow up doctor visits, medication, pain medication, creams, mental health/trauma counseling, and future scar repair. Any funds remaining beyond her full recovery will be donated to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.org). If you are able to help out in any way possible, our goal is to help Julie in avoiding financial hardship and ease the strain of this unfortunate accident.
Statement from Julie McDonald who was also home during the incident -
“The one thing that sticks with me is that throughout all of the chaos, Jules couldn’t stop asking about the dog and expressing concern for his welfare. Anyone who knows Jules won’t be surprised to hear this as she is an animal LOVER. She needed confirmation that nothing tragic would happen to him and that we would make choices that could potentially set him up for having a beautiful life experience. He will be returning to the rescue we adopted from for a full evaluation. The decision of rehoming will be at their discretion and we hope and pray that with work and patience his story will be one of success. “
