My name is Megan Phillips, and I really appreciate you taking the time to read my husband Sean’s story.
Sean was walking our dog the morning of May 6th and suffered a seizure causing him several life threatening injuries. He fell directly on his face on the sidewalk, which split his nose in half, knocked out multiple teeth, caused a traumatic brain injury and paralysis on the left side of his body.
Our loyal pup Indigo stayed with him until help arrived, rode in the ambulance with him and stayed with the amazing nurses who held onto her until I arrived, which I am so grateful for.
He was taken to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, NY.
Sean unfortunately arrived in critical condition. The swelling and bleeding of his brain was so extreme that the neurosurgeon decided the best plan was to do a craniectomy, which is removal of part of his skull (right side) to let the brain swell and drain excess fluids. We are hoping they can reattach his skull soon.
He is still currently in the ICU and intubated. The doctors have tried to extubate a few times because his breathing trials were going well. Unfortunately, once extubated, his ability to breathe on his own decreases. They are still not yet sure why.
Today he underwent tracheostomy surgery, which hopefully will be temporary but could be permanent, depending on the patient. His doctors are confident that it should be temporary, but we cannot know that just yet. In addition, Sean had no function of his entire left side until just a few days ago. He has started wiggling his toes on that side when looking at them and concentrating, which is an amazing first step.
Once he is extubated fully and his skull reattached, Sean will be going to a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) rehab center. He will focus on regaining mobility on his left side as well as undergoing brain function exercises and therapy to help ensure a better and functioning lifestyle.
All funds donated to this cause will go to Sean’s medical and living expenses. Any amount you are able to contribute will be very helpful and appreciated.
Thank you so much.
