Nigel is a 15 year old boy, who just recently made try outs for his swim team! With great passion for this sport of swimming, Nigel was waking up early before school every morning to condition and prepare himself for his very first swimming invitational on December 19, 2015. He walked into swim practice Friday December 18th, and that is when and where this horrific accident took place. Nigel and the team were getting ready for practice and he slipped and dove into the pool head first. He was knocked unconscious and his coach had to pull him from the pool and perform CPR. Thank you Our Lord and Savior for the coach that saved Nigels life and bringing Nigel back to us!! Unfortunately, Nigel sustained fractures of C5 and C6 vertebrae. This injury currently has affected him in such a way that he has no fine motor movements of his upper extremities and no movement of his lower extremities. To complicate things more, he developed a severe case of pneumonia which is being treated with antibiotics, aggressive breathing treatments and cough assist. On December 21st, Nigel was put into a Halo for the cervical fractures. He remains in the ICU. Nigel is remaining very positive through all of this and has even requested to try to get into a chair today! I talked with his Aunt Lacey this morning and she said to me... "this kid is truly my hero!"
All that being said, we all can only imagine what stress Jessica and Nigel are going through right now. Let's all show them as much support as we can and lessen the burden of medical expenses, time off of work, equipment and whatever else may be needed for Nigel! If a monetary contribution is not possible, prayers are free and they will take as many of those as they can get!!! And I'm sure Nigel would enjoy reading and hearing about everyone rooting for him!! We all need to be full of positive thoughts, prayers and faith for a complete recovery!!!
