Linda's Surgery
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
We’re writing this and putting together this fundraiser on behalf of our mother, Linda Ernst, who you probably know. Linda recently found out that she needs to have a hysterectomy. This procedure will not only greatly improve her quality of life and help alleviate chronic discomfort, but it is also necessary as she shows some precancerous signs which are especially concerning given her previous history with breast cancer and the emotional and physical hardship she has already gone through with her mastectomy.
Of course getting this kind of news is always stressful, as is undergoing a surgery. However, we were also told the procedure would cost between $7000 and $8000 out of pocket. For our family this is a significant additional stress and burden. In short, we are humbly seeking assistance in covering these costs and ask that if you are so able and inclined, that you might consider donating.
Our mom, Linda, has always been a giver. Since the time we were little she always put her family first. She homeschooled us, drove us to every dance recital and, of course, put endless energy into raising two daughters as a single mom. Even when she was exhausted, she always listened to all our problems and victories alike - supporting us every step of the way (and she still does!). It wasn’t until we were adults that we realised just how much she had sacrificed for her family. We couldn’t ask for a better mom.
Beyond her devotion to her family, Linda is a quiet but dedicated giver to her community. When we first moved to Colorado Springs she was quick to volunteer as a teacher for our church’s Sunday School. She then developed the Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry service group at our parish, which she still is the sole coordinator of. She also has faithfully served on the parish council first as Activities Director, and then as Senior Elder.
You might not have realised how much she gives to her community - she works humbly and quietly, not asking for thanks or attention - but we guarantee that if you're a member of our little community you’ve felt her impact.
In her free time she enjoys hiking, gardening, and playing with her granddaughter, Gemma. Recently these things have gotten more difficult, and it’s been hard seeing her adventurous spirit dampened, but her surgery should help her get back to these things and greatly improve her quality of life.
Our mom is an incredible person. If you know her, you know she is rebellious and witty, kind-hearted, and strong beyond measure. She’s always there for us and she’s always there for anyone who needs her help. She holds firmly to her beliefs and values and works tirelessly to realise them in her life and the lives of those around her. She cares and loves more fervently than most realise.
But things are still a bit tight for our family. Mom works hard to make ends meet as a supervisor for a manufacturing and distribution company. There, she’s worked her way up over the last five years, demonstrating her unyielding dedication and tenacity. But she’ll have to take time off to recover after her surgery. We don’t normally like to ask for help like this, but to be frank and honest the medical expenses are more than our family can afford.
We know things are tight for everyone this year, but we humbly ask that if you are able that you would consider donating to help cover these expenses. If you are able, we ask that you help us give back to the woman who has spent her whole life giving to others - making sure that as she goes in for her surgery she doesn’t have to worry about the bill.
If you can’t give, we also appreciate your prayers and good thoughts during this time.
Thank you so so sincerely. This means the world to us, our mom, and our family.
Lots of love to you all,
Thecla and Sophia
