On March 24, 2020, a devastating fire destroyed what we have come to know and love as The Point of Rocks restaurant near Olney, MT. What some of us may not have known or recognized was that this building was not merely a restaurant and bar, but a home as well for a family of four. Half of the building was a restaurant and the other half a house.
Greg and Angie Johnson are givers. Known throughout the Tobacco and Flathead Valley, these two have built a reputation as two of the hardest working, most outgoing, loving and supportive people you’ll ever be lucky enough to have met. This couple routinely donates and gives far more than most anyone I’ve met.
Despite the hard times fallen upon us with news of COVID-19, this family has yet another hurdle to jump. A business that has seen more than two decades of success, more than two decades of new and lasting relationships, more than two decades of the most phenomenal prime rib you’ve ever eaten, and more than two decades of family being raised in that establishment… now gone.
Simple math tells us that the restaurant costs a certain amount. In all honesty, this isn’t an exact number. Rather, it’s an approximate value and it more so serves the purpose of helping a family get back on their feet. At approximately $25/meal, this restaurant could bring in $500,000 in a matter of 20,000 meals.
That’s a lot! I get that. What if you donated just one meal at $25? That is, one time paying for the price of that mouth-watering prime rib (best in the state) knowing full well that this money would actually be serving a much larger purpose. This small yet significant gift would inch us closer to a potential re-opening of the restaurant. Even more important, it would inch us closer to helping a family that has helped so many others in years past. It would help to provide jobs to those who lost it due to the fire.
One of us can’t bring The Point of Rocks back, but ALL of us can. If The Point of Rocks and the Johnson family have made an impact in your life as much as they have in mine, maybe you’ll want to donate 2 meals, or 5 or 10. Maybe some will donate the cost of 50 or even 100 meals! I used to eat at the Point of Rocks every night for months at a time and if there is any chance to restore what has been lost, it will require help from everyone.
